Both of my key fobs were working intermittently one better than the other but neither worked as
as they should. It was due to bad contacts. So i soldered light gauge wire to both contacts. Key fobs work as they should.
Bit like you I’ve been reviving my late Uncle’s ‘99. Pewter Auto which lay unused outside for 9 years. Been going through things bit by bit. Afraid to say I await an expensive used EBCM from the states (I’m 90% sure I need it). I’m in the UK so getting parts is less easy here.
I wanted to add to go through all the ground point “splice packs” and clean up the contacts. They’re notorious for causing electrical issues. Well worth doing.
My car seems to be coming along well and I’m hoping to update my thread on it before too long. Mine needs painted too and like you I’ll do lots of prep. Not rushing on the paintwork though.
Keep up the good work!
heres mine

Thanks. I was going to do a colour change but the Pewter growing on me!
Another good thing to have by you is the Chevrolet workshop manuals for 1999. I’ve found them invaluable at times.
do check these splice packs as routine maintenance. This was my one on the passengers side behind the headlight. My car was sitting in the hot south of Spain so not a cold damp climate but the terminals still went like this.

Funny you mention it, my manuals came in yesterday!

So I had this terrible rattling noise, it almost sounded like clutch chatter. It was coming from the shifter/Trans tunnel area. I pull the stock shift **** to investigate and finish off my shift boot install while in there. I went out for some adhesive with no shift **** and the rattle was gone.
so I finished my shift boot and put on a momo shift **** I had and all is well.
Next was the squeak that a chased down to the rollers for the top locking mechanism
$3,400 Why can't I find that kind of deal? She looks rough but if she runs well you got the deal of a lifetime.
As far as the EBCM, I would not invest the $ to replace it. I know of no way to tune out the lights on the cluster. Hopefully your friend can figure out how to do that and I hope you will post a "how to" so others can do it. Personally, I own two 99's with no problems but recently had to repair my 02's EBCM. The 99's cannot be repaired but the 02's can be. Best wishes
Pull the cluster and remove the abs and traction control bulbs. messages will still appear though
