Which Corvette C5 model was restricted to only a black interior? The FRC (1999-2000).
Correction - add the 2004 Z16 to this list. Many owners would loved to have had the mod red interior...and some have swapped them out, but the 2004 commerative edition Z06 (RPO Z16) was limited to black interior only.
True or false:
The model year 2000 saw GM change the cam design in the C5.
TRUE!! The 2000 C5 came with a 1 year only slightly hotter cam than any other LS1. The cam had .500" lift I&E, had a tighter lobe separation angle, and I believe a degree or two more duration......

You know, I thought this thread should have been called "can we stump Larry"...
And we did....my 2000 FRC has a HUD too.... We love you Larry!!!
That one did stump me Gary! I had to do a little research and back up and punt, but I learned something new!
I have a buddy with a 99 FRC and he told me the HUD wasn't available on the FRC's and I took his word for it.
I assure you, I don't know all there is to know about C5's, so keep 'em coming!

This I did not know! I tracked my 2000 once only with the only mods being a BPP vortex ram air filter and a Borla (their original, mind you) cat-back muffler. Without abusing it at all, off a 1500rpm launch I got a 13.05 @ 109.52 at an elevation of 603 feet. It was always the mph which got my attention, the car being essentially a cherry.
Which clusters had the option of HUD being added to them?
While GM introduced the HUD option on 1999 cars, all C5s technically have the option of adding it on. However, pre-99 cars either do not have the option of the Page utton working or it may require different wiring - no one has solved that one yet. For everyone else, even if your car did not roll out of the plant with HUD it can be done. The gauge clusters came with the internal wiring, needing only to have a wire connector soldered on and the requisite wiring/dash control/hud/bezel added.

The following times/speeds on my 2000 A4 Vert were all made without even removing the sparkplugs!!
12.89@109.97mph.......
Made with an educated guess LS1 Edit tune, 160° stat, LS6 intake, 25% underdrive pulley, Blackwing air filter, thru stock exhaust manifolds, no cats, with Flowmaster mufflers.
12.50@113.9mph
Same bolt-ons as above, but with Billy Boat shorty headers......

You guys made it easy for me....How can anyone forget that the C5 was the first Corvette to win at Le Mans in it's class, not once but, 3 times!! World beater, indeed!!
Congratulations Larry, on your wins for the C5 category and overall!! Well deserved!!

That's a damn good one Thomas!!! You'd think I would have though of that, especially since I've been watching the Rolex race for most of the last 24hrs. The C8.R's dominated, they were 1 & 2 most of the race and finished that way, but they have a long, long way to go to eclipse the C5.R's history!
Thanks, I really appreciate it. I have a lot of supportive friends here, no doubt!

No worries!! I have a feeling the C8.R is a legitimate threat to beating all previous Corvette Racing wins and such. Not taking anything away from their debut but, back in the early days Corvette wasn't expected to win, let alone finish in a respectable position but, when they did start winning and routinely, it was magnificent. GM and Pratt and Miller really were deadly serious about getting to the top of the heap, and finally beating the Viper GTS-R they had slayed their dragon. From that day on in Texas, Victory Lane became a routine reality.
Lot of good people in here with a wealth of information and willingness to help in the C5 section, so I concur with your sentiments!!
This is somewhat correct, the headlights have been fixed in all C6 to current, but it was actually a return to a fixed position. 1953-1962 were all fixed headlights.

Cool, that means when I get around to adding headers, borla's, a good intake, tune and a few other things it may be as fast as my old 98 that got me in trouble with a bit is excessive speed.
I did have to promise my wife I would not even consider doing that again. Even though it was over 10 years ago I still hear about the time she had to bail me out of jail. I learned my lesson. trust me. and and still feeling the punishment when she gets angry.

The C5 Coupe had a Coefficient of Drag of just .29 making it the most aerodynamic production Corvette ever made. While much can be done to most year Corvette to improve airflow, it makes sense to build off a good base. Perhaps this is why so many C5s are still seen in 1/2 mile and top speed runs.
The C5 Z06 was .31
Current 2021 C8 production is .32, which is equivalent to a C5 Convertible
