Worked fiberglass all day. Cut, trim, cut, trim….. Intake clears the bodywork, that’s a good sign. Bodywork still about an 1” to low but I’m shimming and adjusting until I have it right then I’ll start picking up mounting holes.
Refitting bodywork again for sidepod alignment check and to see how windshield alignment is. Designed some port windows behind the doors to flow with style of bodywork.
I thinking about painting it a Penske Blue with silver and gunmetal trim to match the other set of 60th anniversary spyder wheel set I have to continue the illusion…
If you have the time could you measure the top of the rear corner of the intake manifold to the ground and about how far forward it is from the rear axle centerline?
No,
the doors are Lola T70. I’m trying….to retain some what of the factory look of the original car. It car is way to long, way to wide….
but if you don’t know T70’s you’ll hardly know the difference…
I asked because they look freshly made. No paint etc on them...
I think I like your dimensions more than the original. Although I've never seen either up close so that probably means absolutely nothing to you 😂. Epic build though. What your doing is WAY beyond my skill or patience level lol, but I would love to build a more cookie cutter kit car myself some day.
Thank you,
The bodywork I purchased from California and had it shipped to me sight unseen…my bad, the nose and side pods are not pretty to say the least…the doors are just copies right out of the molds. I’m trying to keep the original style & merge with today’s technology…but I will be doing a ton of fiberglass..
this project is 9” longer, 6” wider, but my personal view is the proportions are better. We’ll see as things progress. Anyone can throw a ton of money for custom wheels blaa, blaa, I don’t want to go that way. I’m using factory corvette stuff where I can so everyone can relate to it. It will look more widebody than I like killing to smooth shape of the original car, but at the end of the day I have to keep moving forward.
I appreciate this perspective about the custom wheels vs flash. I think kit car owners often try to emulate or exaggerate the oem look or try to pass it off as near to original and I have never subscribed to that.
A custom home build such as this, very much not a kit car, stands out more by showcasing its origin, the work invested, and how different it is from any peer build.
Oops, sorry about that. Streetcar pic got in there…my bad. Well crap, with all my big-brain engineering I didn’t take into account the .500” less material required at the crown for the windshield to lay correctly in the frame….one step forward, two steps back..damm…. I’m slicing a 1/2” strip out of crown now to pull cab upper section aft for correct alignment. Deep breaths…
Machinist friend fabricated my Rack bushings and they fit perfectly. I’ll work on the mounting plates hopefully this week. Surgery went as well as can be expected, windshield fit is way better but still not to my liking…I’m going to be cutting/fiberglassing a number of time to get everything right. Pulled all the bodywork & cleaned the chassis & shop up from the big-*** mess. Worked on sidepod close outs and some transaxle alignment items.
Cutout the dual panel patterned today I have the panel just sitting on the side close outs and it’s actually only about .200” on the left side. I’m very happy with the results I’ll start welding on the frame tabs then cutout the upright’s here shortly.
