I read an article that showed many manufacturer's racing car versions that were based upon stock bodies. Almost every one of the cars had AP Racing J-hook slotted rotors on them. So don't believe that slots do nothing.
My 2001 C5 had 12,000 miles on it when the OEM rotors were causing brake pedal pulsations. The dealership told me they would turn the rotors once but the next time they'd recommend replacing the rotors.
I ended upi replacing OEM with Cryo slotted rotors and never had a problem with them.
AP's J-hook slots are patented but you still can get slotted rotors that are better than the straight slotted ones. I like these:
DBA 4000 Series T3 Rotor (tirerack.com)

For a time I designed stainless steel rotors for police cars and motorcycles. They were PVD coated but the fun part was driving Crown Vics with plain and slotted rotors. I found that initial braking required a lighter touch of the brake pedal. Pad thickness remained very even over braking miles.
