Well, he might be right on, at least in the 0-60 times.
I've seen one of these on the track and it was doing low 12 all day.
Don't forget that these came with AWD and a that turbo 4 they shared with eclipse - lots of modding potential.
The 2 Liter DSM engines can easily push 400+ HP. The seller has listed all the necessary mods (including the most important: bigger turbo, injectors, fuel pump) to make this possible. They did not list a dyno sheet, so who knows. The car is also All Wheel Drive, so even with those skinny tires, it should be able to launch well.
A Galant VR-4 is essentially a sedan version of the Eclipse GSX platform. Lots of GSX's out there running 11's and 12's (Z06 territory).
I wouldn't say this either. It was a very cool car at its production time - plenty of power and AWD. It would kill a stock 91 C4 corvette in a heart beat.
I think it was a nice concept. I was actually looking for this model as a DD but they are pretty rare. These cars are surprisingly reliable in stock form, going w/o rebuilt for over 200 miles.
I wouldn't be surprised if the auction ends at upper/lower teens - or about 3 TIMES its blue book value. Not bad for car that retailed for essentially mid/upper teens in 90s.
IMHO it does not matter how fast that car is, or is not, it is still one giant POS.
Sometime it's fun to drive a ratted-out POS looking car that is unbelievably fast. Very satisfying at the drag strip to beat a supposedly faster, better looking car.
Primer fender, primer hood- different color, bad paint. Turns 8.10 @ 172MPH in the quarter.
If someone pulls up next to you at the light (on the drag strip, of course ;) ) in a ratted-out ancient-looking 60's era VW bug making hissing noises, you might want to think twice about running them. 10 second Turbo Bugs are common (for Turbo Bugs) and here's one turning 9.773 @ 135.24 MPH ( http://members.aol.com/hspics2/42ktrbo.html ). Pretty funny to watch those cars run, as they can pull amazing wheelies ( wheelie video on the Racing Flix site).
True, there is always someone faster. Doing it creatively and unsuspectingly earns kudos and sometimes laughs.
