I personally could care less if its faster than a Z06- but I highly doubt it runs 12.0's. I a familiar with those cars and some of the mods- from what I see he maybe could get a 12.6-13.0 out of it. If he runs a 12.0 could for him- either way its still a pos.

Of course theres always someone faster- but when you start adding mods its a different ballgame. Dont you think a Z with a supercharger or heads and cam would punish one- of course- its not the same anymore when mods are involved. I still would be VERY shocked to see one run 12.0

So, a Galant or an MR2 can outlaunch me on the street. I doubt it... I can cut 1.7s on the stock radials. 1.6s on ET Streets. The timeslip I saw posted was a 1.8 for one of the car's y'all were citing. Most of the imports I am aware of think a 2.3 60' is average, and that anywhere close to a 1.9 is darn near Warren Johnson Pro-Stock level...

From your posts I would say you may beat him(them: AWD turbos) on a smooth, prepared track but not on the street. The street is filled with bumps, dirt, water, oil, and so on (some tracks come with similar features in which case advantage goes to AWD). When the Z06 hits any of these "hazards" on WOT traction goes away and the Z06 is done. Not so with an AWD car.

It's painful to watch 4-door Audi S4 AWD turbos waxing Z06's on the track on Speed Channel, where the Z06's slide around corners fighting for traction on-throttle (exiting the turns), but AWD is a strong advantage in any competitive situation.

Is a 12 second VR4 a Z06 killer up against No Mercy or J-Rod, no. But against the average Z06 car+driver, probably. It's a lot easier for the average person to drive an AWD car, especially under adverse road surface conditions.

Sure, the VR4 is not an attractive car, and did not sell (hit $8600), but any 12 second AWD car is fair competition for the Z06. The AWD Porsche Turbo (similar HP, more weight) would be very tough to beat on dirty, bumpy conditions (stock for stock against the Z06).

As for there is always someone faster, here's a Go cart (notice the capital G) that will absolutely smoke (literally) the Z06: http://www.the-rocketman.com/gocarts.html

Anyone with a Z06 that traps 248+MPH raise your hand :smash: You can't really get groceries with it, but it's a lot cheaper than the Z06 (except for perhaps your insurance payments (health)).

Don't forget about weight transfer. A mr2 turbo is mid engine rear wheel drive car with a limited slip that is capable of 1.8 or better 60ft. Like I said before this are two of the best motors in the import scene. Here is a 10.2 mr2 at 140mph http://www.gunter.ws/videos.html

Threads like this make me ashamed to be associated with a lot of you corvette guys. You're all driving chevy's and you have the gall to make fun of somebody elses car? Please.

Also, some of you need to wake up and figure out there are a55loads of cars out there that'll eat a stock C5 or z06 for lunch, many of those are imports with little tiny engines and sometimes with four doors. Some of you are just too caught up in how fancy your little plastic chevy is to care about other neat cars/powerplants out there.

 

You've got to do better than a 10.2 @ 140 to beat the Go cart at 3.9 @ 248. The dragster version (not fair competition for the Z06 as it costs more) turns 3.22 @ 412. Even No Mercy's Z06 beats that MR2 with a 9.9 @ 143... Then there's Lingenfelter's 8 second C5... Hard to beat cubic inches. Any small-cube import times posted will alway be beaten by a larger cube car. For the money, nothing beats the Go cart ;) :steering:

There are NO 100% STOCK imports that I have ever seen that will beat a stock Z06. Yes I well aware theres a few here and there that have there engines maxed out and falling apart running 11's and maybe a few in the 10's-- BIG woppie dooo. I have a 500hp 2001 mustang that runs 10's- that has a 4.6L V8 engine- but its no wear near stock and neither are the cars you are referring to. I have a friend with a RX7 that runs low 11's- he bought the car new and total he spent more than what he could have bought a Z06 for. If he tried to sell it he might could get $20k for it, if that. Its now a big POS- yes it still runs very good to have over 100k miles on it- but even he will tell you its a big pos and not in the same league as a Z06.

Also why do you guys keep calling his car a POS? Simple because it's not a Corvette it's a POS? That seems like a pretty closeminded opinion, one that seems to be shared with lots of racists as well "He's black therefore inferior" (I'm not calling anyone a racist , simply making a point). Given the numerous C5/Z06 short comings I find it appaling that you(collective) are calling anything a POS and simply not respecting another car that may or may not beat a STOCK Z06.

When I had my first rebuild done to my POS :rolleyes: Z28 there was a fellah there tuning his VR4 Galant. My car cranked off 515 hp to the rear wheels and the day before his cranked out the same amount (Albeit to the front wheels). He was having some cooling problems and had Bob Norwood fab him a new intercooler(Bob was also there tuning a TT Ferrari that laid down over 1k hp and 1k tq) but still managed a respectable 10.80. He was also still running on the stock internals. Just bigger turbo and all neccessary upgrades to safely run said turbo. I think he said his 60's were somewhere in the 1.5'-1.6 area on street tires (Not drag radials).

Anyway I'll get off my soapbox now...just remember its all relative. The Porsche, Ferrari, Mercedes and shoot even HONDA owners have more reliable cars compared to the Z06.

Lets see here- lets suppose we did a national poll all across the country on which would you rather have a 1990 Galant with 160k miles on it that has a wopping 400hp- which will KILL a Z06 :rolleyes: or a 01-03 Z06. Call me crazy but I a pretty sure 99% of people would want the Z06. The other 1%- well to put it nicely- there idiots.

Theres many of us who have had faster cars than the Z06- but the overall performance and looks of the Z06 cant be compared with very many cars- certainly not a Galant- no matter how much hp it has.
Theres many with Z06's that have 500-600hp.

So whats your point? To me the Z06 is not an attractive car. Yea it's the best looking AMERICAN today but most of the styling can be contributed to Japanese or European styling. The butt of the car is to huge to compliment the body. And there is no technology in the car either, utilizing the same ohv that they been using for years. And to take a 1990 4 dour 4 cyl.and push it to power levels exceeding the vette with minor bolt on's on a stock block is impressive. If a 13 year old car can do this what does this say about your cars with 3 times the liter and twice the displacement makes you wonder HEY? Another point, the lancer is coming down wit 280 hp all wheel drive and 280 torque utilizing the same motor as the galant. These cars run high 12's stock low 13's stock so with a good launch and an experienced driver these cars are capable of beating you stock.

 

If you read this article this will surely show you that the 2 is more than capable of hanging with a stock vette
