[Z06] z06 Killer!!!!!
I think they have to come here and :troll because the MR2 and Gallant forums closed, due to a lot of members dying from terminal stupidity.
Most Z06's run low-mid 12's stock. Not high 12's to low 13's. The only ones I have ever seen run a 13 is in high altittudes, in which case the car you are referring to would run a high 13- low 14.
I find it exceedingly funny how owners appear to adopt different attitudes.
"The Galant may be faster than a Z06 but its still a POS"
to that, a Ferrari owner might say
"A Z06 might be faster than a Modena but its still a POS"
There are two real categories to look into.
Performance and Styling.
When someone wants performance, they don't necessarily need the best looking car.
When someone wants styling, they don't necessarily want the best performing car (all those C5 auto tranny owners who never take the car above 55 in their life come to mind)
That's because there haven't been any serious Japanese sports car imported in over five years, expect for the Acura NSX. You're bragging about the fact that a stock Z06, which is only a few years old, is better than cars that are ten year old designs. Of course the new car is going to be better! How about comparing those early nineties imports to early nineties Vettes? Then it gets more interesting.
Now, if you want we can talk all sorts of silliness. I know of some cars that run 7.80's to 8.20 that run in outlaw Street classes on 10.5" slicks. Would you want to run one of them on the street. Oh, and several of them are tagged and inspected... Big deal. Yeah, this pointless thread can go on forever.
About he only time I would be worried about an AWD is in a pouring rainstorm or if it freezes here. Since i don't drive the Z06 in the rain, and it only freezes here about once every 5 years, I don't see the issue.
Sure, any car can be made fast. Would you like to race a 4 door Nova. I can go put a baby seat in the back and everything. We can make it look like grandma's grocery getter. I can stick the B/SM 353in SBC sitting on the floor in my shop in it. It only makes 780HP on a single carb on motor. I have second sheet metal manifold for twins and a brand new set of PRC carbs for it...
How about the NSCA / Factory Street car we have. On a set of 26x10" slick with bolt on traction devices, a 350 with unported heads, max lift of .485, an 850 carb, and a single plate limited to about 100HP the car is running 10.0's...
Now, as for bashing any of the cars. I haven't... I don't care what you drive, if you like it. But, I just think the whole Z06 killer is kind of a joke. But, I think the Viper guys feel the same way when they hear the Z06 called a Viper killer. I guees maybe we should be flattered that someone aspires to the level of performance we have stock.
I think one thing that is funny is how many of these clueless folks think performance out of one of these cars comes cheap. For the same money folks spend on one of these cars, they could have a H/C F-Body and go faster. I know the import guys may scoff at that. But, look at theinitial cost, then look at the cost of parts. An F-Body is similarly priced, and cheaper to mod...
Anyhow, enjoy whatever you drive. But as I said about MR2s/gallants/whatever. Don't sing it... Bring it.
I dont think theres any farrari owners that look at a Z06 and say oh what a pos- because of the ultimate pkg listed above. They might think oh its not as fast as they are but they would not think its a pos. The same goes for all you import guys here- if you thought the Galant or MR2 was soooo great and the Z06 was such a pos then you'd be over on the import forums and not here.
If you'd rather have a 400hp Galant over a 400hp Z06 then I pitty you. :chevy :jester

And just why is that? Oh, could it be that the rice bombs didn't sell? Now that's interesting, some of these great cars, with their great technology, did not sell enough copies to remain in production. Strange, seems like as great as those cars were, everybody would have wanted one.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Damn, I must have got out of bed on the wrong side.
John
PS.......my sleeper would be a Buick Grand National.....very fast AND reliable.
Horsepower 277 bhp @ 6800 rpm
Torque 293 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm
Acceleration
0-40 mph 2.7
0-60 mph 5.2
0-80 mph 8.7
0-100 mph 13.0
0-1320 ft (1/4 mile) 13.7 @ 103.5 mph
Braking
From 60 mph 120 ft
From 80 mph 204 ft
Handling
200 ft skidpad 0.89 g
700 ft slalom 60.8 mph
Actually does not come close in any category.
Performance on Coupe
0 - 60 mph [secs] 4.5
0 - 100 mph [secs] 11.7
1/4 mile [secs at mph] 13.1 at 111
Top Speed [mph] 162
Lateral acceleration [g] 0.92
Fuel Economy [City/Hwy in mpg] 19 / 28
That is for the Coupe. I think they are little generous on the 0-60 but oh well. Last I heard the Skyline still isn't available in this country. Oh you can acquire one by questionable means(gray market), but that'll run you right up into the price range of a Corvette.

Idea, why don't you get a Z06, then you can go and
:troll on the ricer forums.
In fact I'm kind of looking for a car like this to be my DD. These turbo AWD cars can be a lot fun. The new WRX is a bit out of my price range, but the VR4 galant is. Too bad too few of them were made.

There's alot of reasons they didn't sell. The SUV craze was the main reason, as well as emissions. The Corvette had a big enough chunk of the market to keep on selling. The fact that they didn't sell well doesn't change the fact that when new they were in some aspects outperforming Vettes.
