I put the clear nano ceramic film on my daughters Volvo a couple of years ago. I think it is called Air80 but I do not remember exactly. There was no degradation of vision quality during the day or at night but it really did knock down the interior temp of the car on a hot sunny day. I live in Arizona as well so that is saying a lot. My only complaint is that during the first two weeks (as it is curing) I would get halos around lights at night. That went away after the first couple of weeks. Either way, would I do it again? Yes. It was worth the money.

I had clear up film 3M on a windshield and it was great but not forever. What I mean is that about the first 5 years it was on the car there were no negative effects and it definitely helped keep the car cooler. But it did eventually become scratched and slightly hazy to the point that night time driving was really uncomfortable and hard to see. I since have removed the film and have not wandered to spend the money to replace it.
in conclusion as long as you treat it as a wear item that will need to be replaced every 3/5 years you will be happy. But if you expect windshield tint to last forever it is not for you.
Laws differ by state, but in the end you pretty much decide what you want. I live in FL and have legal tint on the sides and rear. I had some UV/Heat Shielding tint applied to windshield and although it's virtually clear, it really cuts down on the heat and the glare of the sun as well as oncoming headlights, etc. Very happy with it.
