do the wing. I have a rk sport c/f one and , while its looks ricey , it makes the car stand out in the crowd....I love it...it mounts on the rear facia and allows the hatch to work....do the wing thing
I have one that I purchased from WCC that's based on the C5R design, a few months back. The reviews I get are mixed, but it's my car and it difintly gets attention. (I'm booked for the next several parades)
It's a shame that just because a few Hondas started putting on tall wings, it makes them off limits to everyone else. Lamborgini and Porshe have been using large wings for years.
It looks REALLY ricey and there's no way in God's green earth I'd ever put that thing on my car.
BUT!
I'm an old fart. I wouldn't drive a C5R replica in the first place. IMO, race cars come to the track on a trailer. Street cars don't. So if you're building a car to race, then it shouldn't be on the street to start with.
Having said all that, if you're building a replica ANYTHING, it should look just like the original, decals and all.
I cant decide, but consider its affect on resale. Its like having a swimming pool, if the potential buyer wants it, then great, but it may turn off the majority of potential buyers.
FYI I love the C5-R look, I think I have almost every Lithograph, 1/18th model, and several photos, in my basement and garage. Wife won't let me pass the basement door

A true race car aka (C5R ) is just that... A daily driver is not a race car in the C5R tradition... if you want to make your dailer driver "Look" like a C5R racecar.. then it needs the Spoiler, but you do not see any real C5R's on the street. You made the decission to turn your street car into a C5R look alike, ( but a Fake ) so you are going to have to deal with the "Rice" criticism....
The definition of "RICE" is gray... But in my opinion, and only my opinion.. making a fake C5r for a daily driver would be considered "Rice".
But why car what anyone else says.. it's your car, and if you think it is cool, then thats all that counts...your never going to find 100% of the people to be 100% happy with any of your or my choices...
Ok here is an update on my car. Test fitted the nose and already starting to match the fenders up! What do you guys think?
The spoiler I have is a 98% replica of the real carbon fiber one used in the 2001 season. Only it's fiberglass and aluminum. It's not the skinny one they use today. This baby is huge!
Man after looking John Shiels corvette I'm kinda disappointed in mine. I went short on the chin spoiler to avoiled rubbing and scraping the street.
before i offer my opinion, i should clarify what i call rice.
rice is a stock car with race car pretentions. someone who pretends to be faster than they are for the appearance of it, i.e. "fast and furious" (more accurately, last and curious).
so, i say go for it. now if your car was never going to see a track, i'd call rice. since your talking about a daily driver track car, i thin your creating what most of us wish we could drive every day (and get paid to do it).
i think you may consider a small wing for street driving, just something to fill in the blanks, so to speak, and the "big" wing for track events.
another point brought up is the mounting of it. if you simply mount it to your rear hatch and you use a real wing, it might be possible to damage the car and/or loose the wing should you ever actually achieve terminal velocity. just a thought.
something else about the idea of rice. seems like i still on occasion see a car going down the street with a pro stock hood scoop. if that's really a 10 second car, is that rice too? never seem to find any threads complaining of some ricer with a pro stock scoop on a '88 camaro. hmmm....
It is on a two piece bracket already... My only problem is I'll have two 4 inch plates sticking out of my hatch when the spoiler is not on. Thats another thing, drilling holes and mounting this wing is a no going back to stock deal as well. Then again what am I saying... look at my rear fenders. Those an't going back to stock ether.

I wouldn't mount a wing unless it is anchored to the frame. There can be some very large forces generated. Even if you are at highway speeds a good nose wind can get you up into some pretty sustanial numbers. Aslo this is going to completely change the handling dynamics at speed.
C5R replicas should have a wing...
...but I would be as concerned about building a replica that could at least approach the performance of the C5R...
...are replicating appearance only...?
hmmmm then I think it could taste like rice
