Default Race Wing Or No Wing? Help!

Ok I need help. Here is the deal...

As you all know I'm building a replica C5R, It's pretty much done. Well, when I was test fitting the rear wing and looking at it, I could help but think... omg it's rice! But no it's race... I will be racing the car... but It's also my daily driver. So now I am stuck. I need you guys to give me feed back. This is a tight topic... I know and negative feedback is welcome too.

Do you like the C5R racing wing on a 80% street & 20% race used corvette that looks just like the real thing.

This is the only photo I have of a C5R with out the race wing. This is exactly how my car looks right now... only in blue. It just looks like it's missing something with out it.

make a bracket to make it removable.

It is your dream if you want a replica so be it. If i saw it drive by i would think rice first. Might be Less of a ticket magnet with out
my vote is no wing or removable wing =)

How about the rear spoiler pice that sticks up just a tad instead of hanging over like it is and maybe the ground effects on the rear lower half would add to it.

It is on a two piece bracket already... My only problem is I'll have two 4 inch plates sticking out of my hatch when the spoiler is not on. Thats another thing, drilling holes and mounting this wing is a no going back to stock deal as well. Then again what am I saying... look at my rear fenders. Those an't going back to stock ether.

I've already added the lower spoiler just like the real ones.

Do it right...if you're going to do a C5R, then do a C5R.

I'd go all the way down to the decals if i was trying to make a C5R replica...

I like the way to the wing looks but it may be a bit much on a DD for some but in the end you have to decide wether or not you want to see the wing when you walk to your car every day. If you like it screw what anyone else has to say about it and throw that wing on. You want a C5R and the C5R has a wing so complete the look. Not many people have a C5R look-a-like and almost everyone wants their car to be different from the rest here's your chance to make it that way, but after all is said and done your the one that's going to have to be happy with the end result not anyone else and like you said if you drill the holes you can't go back.

So far i think your car is looking pretty sweet, I really like the hood.

If your doing the whole C5R thing. Then yes, you have to get the wing.

Ok here is another thing... The wing feels very heavy. do you think that will help (adds weight on the rear tires for pick up) or hurt (adds weight and drag) ?

If I go with the wing I'll loose my hatch... un-less I attach it to the hatch and not the rear facial. you guys think it will still look good moved forward about 4-6 inches?

I believe in mounting the wing properly it will attach to the frame of the car. This way the down force at speed is transmitted to the frame near the axle points. The front splitter is needed to counter balance the down force.

There are several forum members that have done this as well. Their cars are not daily drivers, but strickly track cars.

If I may ask where did you get the wing?? ACP produces the racing wings for most corvette classes. http://www.corvetteracebodies.com/

What several ppl have down is put the small front spitter, street version, and the rear spoiler off the deck. This way the car does have down force at speed but not as much as the big front splitter and the big wing of the C5R.

Good luck and post some pics when you are finished. i am sure it will be very cool when you are finished.

Particularly if you are going to decal the car. That would make it obvious it isn't a "street" vehicle and the spoiler would seem appropriate.

Your car already looks awesome. If your on the track, the wing is fine. If your at the store or pumping gas, it's gonna look like too much. You'll get some comments. But it's your car bro..........If you can stand the heat, stay in the kitchen.

Thanks guys! I can't believe I'm up till 4:00 in the morning trying to figure this out fast! I have paint shop rented out to paint my car in the next few days... so I'm real close! Dose anybody here have photos of these street and stock corvette's with the wings on them? It's just so hard to say! I'm very surprized that most of the feedback has been toward putting the wing on! I'm just worried about cops and trouble. There isn't a size limit on big wings right?

John Sheils has a splitter and rear wing on his car.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/member.php?userid=1898

Very very Big pics

When you ask:
There isn't a size limit on big wings right?
Do you mean for the street or racing?? If for racing they most likey is and that would be according to the rules of the orgainzation SCCA or NASA and class. If you mean doing DEs then no. In general the wing should be no wider then the rear window of the car.

The wings on the C5R do have a size limit based on the rules of the GTS Class http://www.lemans.org/univers_sport/...ts_2004_gb.pdf

I guess the question is How technical and close to an original C5R do ou want to get??

Good luck

Maybe a smaller wing that blends in with the natural lines of the car

A wing on a race car is one thing and the other is having someone or knowing how to set it up to make it useful on the track. I have no problems any way you slice it but like mentioned before, if your making a true C5-R rep. than go all the way.

I think that the wing is just way to big on a street car. If you don't have the rest of the car to match that car, it wouldn't be nice at all. If I had a coupe, I would have done the Carvaggio wing on long time ago. There ARE rules as to how high wings can be on the street. It should not obstruct the view from the rear window. A funny thing that I remember reading on the net is the Subaru STi guy who once got a ticket for his stock wing. I'm sure that he got it thrown out, but that should give you an idea of what's legal or what would attract unwanted attention.

But since you ARE building a replica, go for it!
