You feel that way b/c of the exclusivity and looks, not performance. I agree w/ you. If you took a C5 Corvette and it wasn't made by GM, but instead had a prancing horse on it, rearlly nice interior, super brakes w/ sweet wheels, people would rave about the amazing chassis, the innovative drivetrain layout, the efficient an dpowerful smallblock, etc etc...

Instead, it's "only" a chevy and it's a redneck, POS interior, anyone can afford one car to many.

Dude, who's squrimming.... I live in an area that's full of the most expensive cars in the world. La Jolla, Rancho Santa Fe, Fairbanks..... stop be so serious. Everyone knows the pecking order of cars. The poster is a jerk off, big deal

Take care and it was great having you with us here on the Corvette forums for the couple of weeks that you have been with us.

Default Apples and Oranges

You are comparing ducks and geese, etc. We could disect where Vettes succeed and Ferraris fail (especially on issues of reliability and quality of manufacturing...economies of scale as well). But bottom line, a car which sells for three plus times the price...how much are you willing to pay for that last 10%.....And how do real Ferrari Fanatics feel about such a "common" Ferrari as the 308? 328? 348? 355? 360? Might they of 12 cylinders look down upon the lowly 8 cylinder Ferrari?

So a Ferrari 612 is not a sports car and a Miata and 350z are?

You are partially correct. A true sports car also needs open air (removable/convertible top), so cross the 350Z off your list.

That doesn't mean sports cars are the fastest, best at everything, there are certainly plenty of faster cars out there that aren't sports cars...It just means the definition does have a specific meaning to most people. The Miata, S2000, Z3, Z4, etc...are current cars that fit the true definition of a sports car.

Point was I love cars in general... The EVO/Sti dont get nearly enough respect around here. Anyway, why cant we just except the Vette is the best car in its class. Problem is, there really arent any other cars in the same class. Alot of people like going the step down (EVO/Sti/Cobra etc) and shoot for us. We like to shoot for the group above (Vipers/360). Only thing is the Vette is really the only car that overlaps and outruns many of the class up in price (911/NSX). Each step up in the pecking order you get less and less in the way of things like realiability (Im guessing a slightly higher % of C5 daily drivers then 360's). For the money, I dont think Ive ever heard the Vette is over-rated. Same isnt true of the 360/911/NSX. At the end of the day if you drive a Cobra its still just a Mustang. If you drive a z06 its still a GM. If you drive a Ferrari, well its a Ferrari. Dammit I know I had a point, but hell if I know where it went.

If you want to get extremely technical about it, yes, that would be correct.

Am buying a Range Rover as well. The
Ferrari is for the good weather and no
speed limit roads in Nevada.

Perhaps they do love cars but if I were selling cars at well over 100K a pop, I'd love my customers and give them darn good service too... Money talks

As John Arbuckle once said:
"YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR."
I do not think any GM car is worth a dollar
any more. They and their dealers suck bigtime.
I want to be safe when I drive!

Perfomance stock to stock are very close. Oops! Let's see you strap on a SC on your stallion and crank out the power. What does it cost to tweek a Ferrari? Can you tweek a Ferrari? My guess is that it is as good as it gets from the factory. No room for improvement. So you better be happy with a stock car. Let's go out for a drive...cool. You'll get lots of looks and pointing. Alright now, let's stop and park it. Uh Oh! Where can you park it. Certainly not at the mall, grocery store, airport, race track, casino. Okay you can hire Guido to stand guard while you leave it outside. So let's see now, you can drive from your home to...your home. A little limiting but alright. The C5 I can go anywhere and park. It's a great daily driver. Let's autocross. C5 would get you there and do well and take you home. The ferrari, no way it might get scratched. Let's talk depreciation, 1999 C5 $25,000 today (loss $18,000). 1999 Ferrari what ($50,000 loss). Bad investment. Maintenance issues, C5 none really if you have a warranty, Ferrari $4000 tune up every 15,000 miles. Ouch! For $4000 they had better be nice to me. In fact they had better suck my D..k and swallow for that kind of scratch. "Honest" you said, 3 times in fact. What's honest about charging $60,000 too much at purchase and $3,600 too much for a tune up. Honest as thieves! And I'll bet you that they have the same percentage of lemons as any C5 out there. But let's recap the options both these cars come with. The C5 has too many to mention. The Ferrari, oops! You get a radio (typically ugly), AC maybe, all in all a very basic car. So you could say that there are fewer things to go wrong. If they don't offer a lot of ammenities, how can they break? What else is a sports car made for but performance. Bang for the buck, C5 hands down wins my vote. Oh but the Ferrari is sooo sexy. Okay you've got me. I like the lines of the Modena. Look, I've already embarrassed a 360 (nice guy though). I guess you can say they are fun cars. Fun to embarrass. Let's be honest here. I've read pleanty of posts that complain about their Vettes, but I read many more posts of guys improving their cars and enjoying the hell out of them. If fact there are lots of guys and gals that enjoy trouble free driving for over 100,000 miles on their stock C5. If you want someone to kiss your rearend then go ahead and pay $140,000. Pay me $60,000 and I'll be nice to you as well. GM produces a top winner at a cheap price and that deserves kudos. They could charge a lot more and sell 100 units but that's antithetical to the American way. So, back the F off and go sip a wine spritzer with your symnbolism over substance buddies at the Yacht club. Oh by the way this is the Corvette Forum, get it.

I should apologize, I wasn't aware that you were overseas. Nevada, Germany is a very nice town from what I hear. Having no speed limits on the roads certainly sounds fun.

It's nice to see you still hanging out with us Corvette enthusiasts, how did your Ferrari forum friends react when you told them that you had transferred the lease on your C5 and had once again joined them with your new Ferrari? No doubt they are missing you as we speak, so I'll keep this short. Again it was good having you with us for the the two weeks that you have been aboard, and we wish you godspeed and good luck in the future as you do all of your posting on your Ferrari forums.
