Most of you are correct in that if you have a MN6 then the recall only downloads a new PCM program, they do not not do any physical change the column lock mechanism... and yes i would recommend having the bypass kit installed.

But, in my case, I have an automatic, and they replaced the lock plate and relay - took about 1.5 hours for the dealer to do. The steering wheel now no longer locks, period!

Try contacting Chevrolet Customer Assistance at http:\\www.mygmlink.com - they were extremely helpful and eager to assist me with a problem related to a local Chevy dealer.

Is there any chance of the Colum locking while the car is driving? Even with the CLB?

Default final decision

GMC will not reimburse me to have my column lock bypass fixed because the dealer did not fix the "harness." So they are not honoring it for me. The up side is the dealer told me that I was a good customer and they are honoring it for me and reimbursing me! This dealer will have my business for life! But, I am very disappointed in GMC. I have to Chevy vehicles and I have been so proud to have these vehicles. But I'm pretty angry about how they weasle out of the recalls. They did the same thing on my Blazer. The wipers go out on the Blazers and they wouldn't honor it by saying they would only fix something else on the wipers that wasn't the problem. I'm very disappointed. How can I be proud to buy their cars when they act like this?
