Yesterday was the first time I had time to go to the beach in about 3 weeks.. I started to back out of my driveway and guess what, The steering wheel wont turn.
Now the funny part (not so funny to me) - This never happened to me before, This is the first time and it only happened AFTER I went in for the recall about 15 days ago. So within about 300 miles of the "FIX" my colum locks for the first time and I have to get my Vette towed to the local dealer.
Says Alot for GM fixing the problem

This is not good news. I've been waiting to see if this happens after the recall. Looks like it's going to be the CLB for me after all. I was thinking that just maybe the lock plate clearance was the problem.
You guys must have thick heads... Ive been here four years as have many others... We all have said the GM fix doesnt work.. its just a bandaide ... may many people have posted a lock after the GM fix.. GM has had three fix recalls over the years an none of them work.,.. theyare just keeping the Govy=t off their back with a halfazzed fix.. the only perminent cure for column lock is to remove the pin motor...they can do that on a A4 but they can not do it on an MN6 their fix for an MN6 it poor at best the column lock bypass with cure all your problems..IM sure you have seen this many times..

Evil Twin, there is no reason to get personal and start saying we must have thick heads. I was curious if the latest recall would fix it. As it happens I do have the bypass. I forgot you were the lord king of all corvette knowledge. K.M.A.
on 6 speeds the "only" fix is to remove the pin,I had a recall scheduled but cancelled after I found out they dont remove the pin ,thats a big waste of time & a F%$#@ joke.
Takes about 20 - 40 minutes start to finish. It is pretty easy to do yourself. You can buy it from Corvettes of Houston or Thrunder Racing amongst others. (got mine from Corvettes of Houston) See link below for detailed instructions, they are more detailed than the instructions that came with the CLB. Any mechanic should ba able to follow the instructions in the link.

JS, I went back to try to find a thread where I dissed you. With the search function still messed up, it took a while. The only thread I could find where you and I wrote, was about the "factory lowering". If that is it, please tell me how you were "dissed". Please re-read it. I was extremely polite disagreeing with you. If it was another topic, please refresh my memory(getting old)
was wondering if it would still lock after the recall was done. What was the dealers response?
Scott
The only dealer response was to have it towed in and "Fixed" again. This morning before the tow truck got to my house The wheel unlocked itself but I still brought it back in.
The thing that bothers me is that it never happened before and right after i get it done it finally happens to me. Is there anywhere where I can read about removing the pin myself?
Yes My car is a 2000 6speed coupe
EvilTwin - why do I constantly see you posting pointless comments when you dont know the whole situations in someones personal circumstance? Who knows maybe you may actually know something about C5's but all I see is you repeating common knowledge, even if it doesnt fit the situation. Yes I havent installed the CLB, but I also had my car for only about 3 months before GM's recall was issued. Why am I or anyone else think-headed for trying to see if the recall would actually work before spending cash on a possibly useless item. If i can't remove the pin myself I wll get the CLB but I nor anyone else really needs your pointless opinions posted in such a unnessecary mannor. Obviously you must think you are a Better person then the FOOLS who havent yet gotten a CLB, but over and over again I see comments about you posts being useless and ill-tempored. I know (like always) you will reply saying "its my opinion, i can post when/where/what/how I want" But just think about how you would reply if someone dared call you Thick-headed.
Well, I have to side with Evil Twin, although he may have been a bit harsh in the way he said it. Why the surprise when it locked after the recall? It says all over it that for MN6s the recall is ONLY to solve the problem that IF THE COLUMN LOCKS the car will not shut off. Apparently there were some where the fuel did not shut off and it continued to drive with the column locked. The recall is NOT TO FIX THE COLUMN LOCK ITSELF. (Not true for A4s, which DOES fix the column lock problem completely). I know that I personally put this comment in 5-6 threads and I am sure many others did as well, but people are still surprised! Oh well, we try...
I agree that much of what Evil-Twin says could be said in much nicer terms, but I also have to agree with his point. It just cracks me up everytime I read an "I'm surprised the column lock happened to me" thread by a member that has been on the forum for a while.
It does say in the recall, they perform a "functional test" to see if the current lock is faulty. I was simply asking or wondering I should say, if anyone had theirs lock up after the recall was performed. I would think that most rational people would assume that after a recall a problem would be fixed. I get tired of reading the CL post as much as everyone. But only about maybe 1% of the vette population is on this forum.
I know that we have all listened to these points of view before, but can anyone recall if there has been an answer regarding the CLB and a stolen car as regards ones insurance carrier.
I guess the easy way to ask this is to wonder what the insurance company would do if they found out you installed the CLB and the car was stolen, damaged and found?
On the A4's, they don't actually remove the locking pin. They put a different locking plate in that has " no holes" for the locking pin to engage. Actually the plate is a spacer washer. The pin still is activated, it just doesn't have anything to lock. The same assembly could be used in a 6-speed, but you would be doing about the same as the CLB setup does then. All strange. Wonder what setup the new C-6's have? Who will be the first column lockup with a C-6????
