There's no car like a C5, there's no car like a C5, there's no.......
When I snap my fingers (snap) you'll wake up to one of the greatest cars ever built! Now go forth and pass the word.
As much as I enjoy my C5, I've come to respect the attitudes and fun those with older models still have with their Corvettes. Even those models that I don't personally care for have something to offer their owners.
The C6 may have something of the spotlight at the moment because it is new. But it is really just joining an already established line of great Corvettes. Part of the beauty of these cars is their heritage.

Obsolete...I think not.
Personally, I am glad GM upgraded the C6, and some day I will get one as a daily driver. But our C5 is a keeper.

Few cars on the planet compare with Sully's C5 and I haven't even seen any of those yet.

You know, it's this line of thought that creates the 'line of division' inside the Corvette brotherhood. All corvettes are great, and I severely doubt that the C5 is anywhere close to past its prime. In fact - I've got a buddy w/ a C4 and he can drive that car sooo good that I'd love to stack him in his 'antiquated' C4 against any 'generic' C6 driver, and I'd bet $100 that he'd take them... it's amazing how well he knows his car.
True - there will always be progress and there will always be improvements.... just think about the guys that are buying the A4 C6's right now knowing that an A6 is around the corner... then all of the C6 guys will be talking about the A4 like it's a 'neanderthal' transmission and they can't see how people could own a C6 with it... very funny.
Anyways, I digress. The issue at hand here is that you obviously think that just because something is new that you have to bow to it. Not true. The C5 is amazing. I have done LOTS of mods to mine, and I still have a list about a mile long that I want to do to it. I plan on keeping my C5 for the duration. It represents *ME* and I'm turning it into something that is 'my dream'.
Trust me... there's more important things in life than having the latest and greatest. Rest easy in the fact that you have a wonderful sports car - an American legend - that by all accounts all future generations of Corvette will be judged against - and mod it and make it into what you want it to be.
If other Corvetters snub you because you don't have a C6, then they really should be driving a rustang, because they don't get it and probably view the car as something less than what it really represents. A previous poster mentioned that they'd take a mid-60's 'vette in a heartbeat. AMEN. My next 'vette will (hopefully) be a small-block mid-year ('65-'67) and I'd take one of those over a C6 IN A HEARTBEAT.
Enjoy the C5 man - it's mean as hell.

The original post sounds a little like the guy down the road that buys the latest car to have something better than the Jones. I bought the car for ME.To each his own.

As with the C5, the best time to buy a C6 will be the last two years of production. By then, they will have all the bugs worked out and even have some C7 technology showing up in them.
In the meantime, will just enjoy the C5.
Yeah, the C6 seems to be a significant upgrade, but the real question for me is "is it worth spending $20,000 to $25,000 for this upgrade ?" There is no single answer to this question, it all depends on ones financial situation. I want to see the C6 Z06 before I make decision regarding an upgrade. Congrats to the C6 owners, it is a very nice car !

wth Sullymy C5 03 coupe -- LS1 - 402 rwhp, 425 rwtq, stock heads and cam. track car
G/f C5 04 vert -- LS1 stock - evening and country road cruzer.
( not easy to keep it stock either )
Besides there is too much to do to a C6 to get it track worthy. Fisrt the LS2 edit program is not quite availible too aftermarket tuners yet.
it looks like a 4x4 as it is 1 1/2 in taller then a stock C5 ride hight, so have to lower the car 2 1/4 inches
take off those drilled rotors on the Z51( use the drilled rotors holes as a pen holders on my desk) and put some safe rotors on.
The cars exhaust sound is very lame, LG is working on some Long tudes for the C6.
So the C6 is a great start to a new geration corvette. Just need to give the aftermarket tunes a little time to perfect it.
The only thing about the C6 that I really am not found of is all the electronics, especailly the doors. I want manual locking / unlocking doors.
BTW, I saw an "over the hill" 1966 big-block roadster with 176 original miles at Corvettes at Carlisle last weekend.
This "past its prime" dinosaur was selling for $99,900. I guess some people just don't know as much as our enlightened poster.

Are you a car dealer trying to create a sense of dissatisfaction among the C5 owners or something? If so, you're talking to the wrong group of people. We love our "vettes" and I'll bet that most of us know that ours is the sleeker looking of the two (especially the front and back) and with proper mods, can be as fast if not faster than the newer edition.
