I know this has already been mentioned but I'm going to add my 2 cents anyway
I just swapped out stock Z06 pads for the GM Ceramic pads and I'm a happy camper. The reason I swapped them is due to horrible squealing noises during low speed braking. The ceramic pads don't have as much initial 'bite' as the Z06 pads, but at least under normal braking conditions, they work very well. I'd say they work about as well as my wife's stock C5 pads do on her car. I'll be changing those out to, also because of squealing.
In theory, the ceramic pads should hold up better against heat fade, but I'll let any track guys chime in here if they want. I have no experience on a track -- strip experience only.

For street use ceramic pads a great, low dust low noise. On the track with high heat those ceramics turn to mush faster then icecream melting on hot pavement.
Track use of pads should be very high heat tollorant pads and have a very stong inital bite. These pads dont work well for street use as there is not enough heat in the rotor or pad. Good track pads, PFC-01, Wilwood J or H, Carbotech XP-9 and XP10, Hawk Blue or Black, I am sure there are others too. racing pads = lots of dust = stopping power.
Some times you stop so fast that your stomach doesn't
First wash since ceramic pad installation and the difference in brake dust is HUGE. Some, certainly, but not nearly the quantity as before. Brakes work fine -- still need to bed them.
I saw on http://www.gmpartsdirect.com
front brake part number is 88909667 for $50
rear brake part number is 88909668 for $35
that ceramic brakes were pretty reasonably priced so I do not think you need to mortgage the house to buy them
they raised the prices slightly but still got them for 102.00 shipped. Was gonna order at Fitchner for 113.00 which also seemed like a great deal. C5 aftermarket parts starting to see a decline in the Corvette tax ??
