Yeah, I know that many factors help determine battery life, but for those of you who drive your C5 at least once a week, what type of battery do you have and how long have you had it installed?
I have an 02 with the AGM, based on the problems I have seen my fellow forum members have with this battery, I keep it on the Battery Tender all the time now. I will likely cut my losses next spring and go for the Optima since I may be taking the car on a long trip and don't want to run into that problem along the way.
Your choices aren't broad enough. Here in AZ you're pushing your luck if the battery is over 2 yrs old. Normal life is 11/2 to 2 yrs. I had the Delco AGM go out at about 26 mos and now have a 2mo old Optima Red Top.
I have an 02 and had the AGM in there for over 2 years but recently changed it cause I got scared reading all the posts about them giving up without warning!!! Went to an Optima.

BTW Dave great pic there!!!
Thanks! That shot was taken by another forum member on a trip through Borrego Springs last week. The AGMs seems to prefer consistant use and as you can see from the poll results, there are some out there (like mine) that are still going strong!
Eddie44,
I'm trying to see how many "survivors" are out there. The failures don't count!
before i left to come to Iraq I took the battery out of my 02 and when I went home on R&R the battery was dead. I now have a Red Top and it is sitting until I return in March.
I had a 98 and the original last until I sold it in 02
Even with consistent use, my original Delco AGM only lasted 1.2 years. It was replaced with another Delco AGM under warranty. That one has been in approx. 3 yrs. Just this week, I started looking around for a decent price on the Optima and Exide.
I read somewhere that the Delco AMG batteries can develop cracks and leak onto your wiring harness under neigth the battery tray.
To help protect my wiring and computer... I removed my battery, placed a paper plate in the tray, and reinstalled the battery so it would sit on the paper plate. Now if my battery develops a leak.... I should be ok
The AGM batteries are leakproof. It was the old lead-acid batteries that leaked and that was because of either over-tightening of the terminal connections or excessive side-loading of the posts due to their positions on the battery (or both).

You're right about that here in AZ, every time we hit the first hot spell or first cold spell I start depositing into my yearly battery fund.
There's no doubt that Optima, Exide, and a few others are far superior to the old Delco AGM, however, the Optimas, and most others are still AGM technology. Check the clip from Optima's web site:
My '02 OEM battery had to be replaced (under warranty) because it would not hold a charge. Apparently there was an issue with some OEM batteries having the Possitive post separate from the cells internally.
