Default Trunk problems...

When I pop open my trunk on my Vert it doesn't open up high enough for me too lift it up. It barely opens not much more than a half an inch, so I have to use my pinky to lift it up high enough to open it up. Anyone else have this problem, anyone know how to fix it?

This has been happening to me recently too. I noticed that if the top is up and I close the door, the pressure inside pushes the trunklid up so that I can reach it better. I have not noticed the lid doing this with the top down.

Take the spring off your kid's pogo stick, screw it to the floor of the trunk. I think you know the rest.

Common/normal problem.

Try adjusting the two rubber bumpers on the trunk lid. They screw in and out.

Other people have indicated that some lubricant on the hinges can help.

I have noticed that the rubber gasket around my trunk seems to get a little stickly too. I put GM weatherstripping lubricant on mine.

Common problem:

1998-2003 Convertible: Trunk Door on Convertible Won't Open All The Way

Others here have reported that lubing the latch with WD-40 or similar lubricant has helped at times. Also, to lessen the risk of damage to the hatch lid from prying it up, shut one of the doors firmly (with windows and top up). Air pressure usually will raise the lid sufficient for you to get your fingers under it.

Hope this helps!

I have an 02 ZO6 and it has been in to the dealers 4 times for the "FIX" Once they didnt do anything, next they adjusted the latch next they replaced the struts and made it worse! Changed dealers and they replaced the struts and that seem to help.
I was at the Carsile PA swap meet this summer and saw a car with springs installed on the piston rods of the gas shocks! This seems to be the answer to our problems. The guy would not tell me where he got them.

I am going to see if I can make my own!

Mine was that way when I got it this spring. I put a couple of drops of oil (mobil 1) on the hinge points, strut connections and a bit in the latch. it then worked mutch smoother and usuall pops right up. also check the spring which the latch striker pushes down when it seats in the latch that's what pushes it back up.
Hope this helps.

I read a post about a year ago on how to adjust the latch. Very easy, just take the carpet loose and loosen two bolts. Slide the latch assembly up and retighten the bolts. It works for awhile but mine is back to it's old ways.

Common problem.

All good advice above.

I lubricated the pistons and it improved for a while but it's as bad as ever.

Well i'd say that if the trunk lid moves smoothly and easy..........then the spring in the latch is probably broken, weak or mis placed. It looks like a thick wire across the opening where the striker enters the latch.

Default Two Squirts Of Wd-40 On Latch Will Fix It!

A few weeks ago this same thread was on and I ran downstairs to the basement and grabbed my WD-40 and squirted two short squirts on the trunk latch assembly and my '02's trunk lid problem was instantly fixed. It is so nice to be able to get the trunk lid up without being fearful of damaging the paint trying to force your finger or other objects under the corner of it to raise it.

Just tried this and it works like a champ. Thanks.
