I was at a track event last wknd, left it in gear, no parking brake because I had just come off the track-ran inside the classroom and some guy comes running in-"your vette is rolling down the hill!"
guess leaving it in gear wasn't enough
funny, every vette I have owned the parking brake never has worked, hummm
but then again Not funny.
level ground only and 3rd gear, no e-bake as they dont work.
I have parked on very slight inclines and with the e-bake ON and in 3rd gear and the car still started to roll.
I guess that new wheel barring grease I used, 15-w50 oil and Mobil 1 ATF fluid in the tranny and diff. really reduced the internal mechanical drag and dropped the rolling reistance. means MORE HP TO THE GROUND
When I park the car, I jack it up and place 4 jackstands under it.
Actually, I will put it in first gear (although I believe Reverse might be a lower gear) and apply the parking brake (that is if it is not out of adjustment like right now)
What a totally useless thread! But seeing as someone asked.......I apply the brakes with my feet, then press the parking brake button, then raise the lever. No ratchet noise, and the handbrake cables don't take the load of pressing the pads on the disc.

Smooth, I have news for you... the parking brake is not located in the rear pads that contact the rotor... the parking brake has its own little set of shoes that are located inside the rear rotor. They look exactly like the Drum brakes of GM's yester year.
Reverse and parking brake per the manual. I actually put my car in neutral, pull the handbrake, let the car be held in place by the parking brake, and then shift the car into reverse and turn off the engine. I let the parking brake do most of the work keeping the car put and let the gear be relied upon only as backup.
We've had too many warnings - NEVER trust the emergency brakes!
Do like they taught 40 years ago - leave wheels turned toward curb (no matter what happens, it can't go far) or, if on a flat surface, REVERSE plus the e-brake.
As another said, if somebody hits you , they will pay for WHATEVER is wrong!
I agree, it is no fun to walk out and find your car missing!!
First. First and Ebrake if I'm on a hill. One time I jumped out of the car and left it idling in the drive way while I ran inside to grab something. I pulled the ebrake, but brake was out of adjustment and the car rolled down the driveway into my neighbors yard. I lucked out, no damage. Luckily the guy wasn't parked in the street like he normally does. My point is, don't trust the ebrake on a hill. It could have been much worse.
