Mobil / Exxon the same company.
BP / Amoco is what many of ppl use on the east coast. Cheveron is vry good too.
I use to like Sunoco 96 Octain when it was avalbiel but it is not in NC ( where I live ) and heard they are putting 10% ethonol in it. Not sure it this is true or not. The only Sunoco Unleaded around here is 100 octane and 110, 115 octane leaded. but at $4 plus per gallon

From a report issued by GM (similar reports from Ford and Chrysler) a few years ago, one of the best fuels was Chevron, then it went to AMCO (BP uses AMOCO's formulations so either is ok). Have never been able to find out if Texaco uses Chevron's formulation, I don't believe they do, but cannot swear to it. Report was released before Shell introduced V-power.
I did use only BP/AMOCO in my car for many months, then switched to Shell, when Texaco stations around here converted to Shell, and started to have a few weird fuel gage readings. Switched back to BP/AMOCO, for a while and the problems seem to go away.
Then all the BP and/or AMOCO stations near me started to disappear and change to Texaco. That was the same time V-power came out. So, now I used V-power or Exxon and the problem still has not returned.
Chevron's are hard to find around here.
I've seen two of these price gougers go out of business around here within the last couple of years. When will they learn.

No. It doesn't. Where'd you dream this?

The first web site is the discussion on what TOP Tier Fuels are, and which fuel companies qualify.
The second is GM's FAQ page on the topic.

Personally - from my experiences over the last year - I'd have to agree with Eddie44, I've been using Chevron exclusively in my '98 and have had zero fuel gauge issues. I recommended to another buddy of mine with an '03, and he had the same results.
Not to cause a flame war or start a fight here, but the comment about Chevron having the highest sulfur content is doubtful, since it is the sulfur content that is thought to be one of the causes to the erratic fuel gauge issue. JMHO, of course!
