Default Which gasoline??

These stations are nearest to me...which do you think would be the best?

Citgo, Conoco, Phillips 66, Shell, Exxon, Texaco.....These are my options! Thanks for your responses..

My first choice would be Shell followed by Texaco. We don't have the others locally. Shell is what is called a "Top Tier" fuel, which you can probably find information on with a Google search. Texaco and Chevron I believe are the same company now.

No Chevron? Chevron works best in our car.

I have a friend that analizes gas for a living. He recommends Shell, than Exxon. Chevron has the highest amount of sulfer in it.
The sulfer is bad for the fuel gage.

I use the cheapest high test available. I don't see a difference with any of them. Usually I use Amaco because they are the cheapest and have cute young girls working there.

Give Shell a try. They usually have good gas that works well in the car.

Shell and Texaco are the same. Shell had some HIGH sulfer problems this past summer on the east coast which caused some C5 fuel gage problems.

Mobil / Exxon the same company.

BP / Amoco is what many of ppl use on the east coast. Cheveron is vry good too.

I use to like Sunoco 96 Octain when it was avalbiel but it is not in NC ( where I live ) and heard they are putting 10% ethonol in it. Not sure it this is true or not. The only Sunoco Unleaded around here is 100 octane and 110, 115 octane leaded. but at $4 plus per gallon

I disagree! Chevron cured my fuel gauge problems. If not available, I'd use Shell. Trial and error will be the best test. If you haven't had gauge problems don't sweat it. Stick with what you're using until you do. Then switch brands until you find one that makes it go away.

Actually, Texaco and Chevron merged, not Shell and Texaco. Shell is owned by the Royal Dutch Shell Group. Chevron and Texaco merged on October 9, 2001.

From a report issued by GM (similar reports from Ford and Chrysler) a few years ago, one of the best fuels was Chevron, then it went to AMCO (BP uses AMOCO's formulations so either is ok). Have never been able to find out if Texaco uses Chevron's formulation, I don't believe they do, but cannot swear to it. Report was released before Shell introduced V-power.
I did use only BP/AMOCO in my car for many months, then switched to Shell, when Texaco stations around here converted to Shell, and started to have a few weird fuel gage readings. Switched back to BP/AMOCO, for a while and the problems seem to go away.
Then all the BP and/or AMOCO stations near me started to disappear and change to Texaco. That was the same time V-power came out. So, now I used V-power or Exxon and the problem still has not returned.
Chevron's are hard to find around here.

I've been using Shell in my '98 C5 for 6+ years. Absolutely NO problems and the car runs great.

Exxon must think they are extra special here in this area. They usually run anywhere from 15-20 cents more per gallon in all grades. I've seen two of these price gougers go out of business around here within the last couple of years. When will they learn.

Only Diamond Shamrock and Exxon locally. The fuel gauge problems were evident as soon as I bought the car, now every trip "out of town" (usually about once a month) I use Chevron and that seems to keeps my gauge working for the month.

http://www.toptiergas.com/
http://www.gm.com/company/gmability/...nt_092704.html

The first web site is the discussion on what TOP Tier Fuels are, and which fuel companies qualify.

The second is GM's FAQ page on the topic.

Read the information and make your own informed decisions.....

Personally - from my experiences over the last year - I'd have to agree with Eddie44, I've been using Chevron exclusively in my '98 and have had zero fuel gauge issues. I recommended to another buddy of mine with an '03, and he had the same results.

Not to cause a flame war or start a fight here, but the comment about Chevron having the highest sulfur content is doubtful, since it is the sulfur content that is thought to be one of the causes to the erratic fuel gauge issue. JMHO, of course!
