i still have my 1986 firebird trans am with borg warner "egg beater " 5 speed transmission 140k. never left me stranded. idrove the car everyday for 7 years. now it is sitting in my garage in good shape. i will be working on minting it out summer 2005 to keep next to my c5.
I started on American cars when I bought a 1985 C4. Loved that car so much that when i fell on harder times, I went to a 1987 Z28 which was OK but not fast enough. I then bought a 98 Z28 and wasn't so keen on the handling so swapped out the suspension for a full Bilstein/BMR setup which made it both better handling and faster than the '85 but it's still not a Vette so I bought an 02 Z06 which really is a huge step-up in performance, handling and brakes ven though I still love my 98.
2 Firebirds for me. 1986 that I totaled in a head on collision only 3 months old, of course not my fault . I replaced it with another 1986 Firebird. Had that one for 5 years.
There was a girl that lived three houses down from me, I was maybe 13 or so...this was in 1978 I guess....and when she got her first car she was all excited about it being a Firebird. I'll never forget the day she brought it home...there was this loud and very, very deep rumble coming up the street from an early 70's model black T/A...and as it passed, she was driving, T-tops off...and damn...455 HO on the shaking cowl. We FELT that thing go by as we stood there with our skateboards....she had no clue what she had. I could almost be tempted to trade my vette for one of those puppies....almost, but not quite.
Count me in. I always wanted a Vette (I'm 35 now). I had a Camaro as a first car in college and just got my C5 earlier this year. What a difference in cars, but my Vette is 16 years newer than the Camaro I had.
