Corvettes are muscle cars and are associated with racing and getting dirty in the garage, which is a blue collar activity----> hence redneck.
Porsches are associated with upper class luxury, real leather seats, and are status symbols ---> hence executives. How many porsche 911 owners are worrying about which catback exhuast choice to make? None probably because they are just not the kind of cars people generally mod.
Both are definitely coupled with midlife crises because, hell, what is the average age of a corvette and porsche owner....definitely mid 40s.
Most owners are of that age because that is when they finally earn enough to afford one.
Call me what you want...but Id rather be experiencing a perma grin, great attitude after a bad or long day then to be tired and miserable after work. Not to even mention the satisfaction on a good day.
Well, I've not heard the "redneck" thing in MI. You can tell the rednecks in this state if they have a #3 or #8 sticker on their back windshield. The real rednecks here have both, along with long sideburns and one or two missing front teeth. But I do get the question about whether I'm living my second childhood comment all the time. My reply to that is "Nope.... haven't finished the first one yet?" I read on this forum from a previous survey that about 85 percent of C5 owners are over 50... and so I'm included in the majority. Sh#@, I just put both daughters thru college and they both got married the year after that. I'm lucky I can even afford a mo-ped. But when I first drove my red 00 vert into the driveway, my wife started crying.. really. Now that was a happy ending.. or... beginning.
When you get to be my age 58 and have been married for 36 long years. You need something that make you smile. Stepping on the gas and listening to the Corsa exhaust does that for me. The Corvette is the best bang for the buck anywhere. I have been a life long Corvette guy. Guess I fit the old guy stereotype. It makes me and my wife feel young with the top off and the wind is blowing through our hair. I still have all of my hair. So let them say what they want. I just love my c5.
Go to a mustang rally a Vette rally and a porsche rally and you WILL see that the Stereo types are for the most part true.
Obvioulsy there are exceptions, but by and large Mustang=20-30 gear head who got the best bang for the buck
Porsche=someone who loves cars, and can afford any car they want.
vette=someone who has always wanted a sports car, and finaly at age 40 was able to get one.
Definately not true. Most of us here and any anyone I've ever met at the countless Corvette events I have been to over the years do not fall into your stereotype. I am 45 and have been driving Corvettes since I was 18 years old. Just like most people I know who own Corvettes, it has nothing to do with age, affordability or any of the typical stereotypes out there. Most of them have owned Corvettes for many years.
I would not buy a Porsche because I don't care for their appearance or lack of power. If it doesn't at least have a V8 engine, I am not interested. Porsches and most foreign cars are very difficult to work on and I wouldn't own a car that you can't see the engine.
A Corvette is the best looking and performing car available IMO and can easily be modded to what ever performance level you desire, relatively inexpensively. Corvette people are mostly DIY'ers and the Corvette is a great pallete for the imagination and talents of their owners. There is just so much available for our Corvettes and that is part of the attraction as well.

I'm going on 42 yrs old in July, been married 23 years, and I have gotten the mid-life crisis thing, insurance company thing! I LMAO at it all, and like most have stated it seems to be jealousy since they don't have a Corvette or they can not afford one. And they sure do not turn down a ride whenever
Yeah, there are those things that "everyone knows" about why we drive our Corvettes (antidote for a mid-life crisis, compensating for less-than-adequate endowment, etc.). And like I said, I really don't care.
But if you do care, if you're tired of answering the questions, and if you live in Ohio, this vanity plate is available:
Me? I'll save the thirty-five bucks for mods and just keep enjoying my C5.
