Bought mine at 22, I'm 23 now. Best (most expensive) decision. My insurance is more than my car payment. About to Graduate from ODU in May so I won't worry about the price after that and can buy more expensive mods besides rims and exhaust. Older brother (31) bought an 04' Z06 to show me up. Love the car and the respect especially from the 50's and up guys that don't have theirs yet. I just was smart and bought the 97 and turned it into an "04". I plan on buying the 05-or 06 a couple of years down the road. Why not save money be smart have the performance!!
I'm 24 and have had the current car for about a year now. Had my first Vette when I was 17 and two Saleen Speedsters and a Cobra Convertible before I bought the C5. I used to always get the "Daddy's Car" comments, but I knew I paid for all of them plus mods on my own and was proud to say that I did.
I wish you luck in finding one! It took me a while to find the car I wanted, but I wanted a low mile silver/black 6-speed vert with every option and finally found this one after looking for about 6 months.
From: I'm a Texan, but I traded the horse for the Vette.
Well.... I am the youngest member alive! I've said it before and if ya'll don't know me, I'm 17 buddies. You know, I actually find myself not "gettin' on it" more than I did with the WS6. Man, I'm so late for this post.... third page... come on, read me
Personally, I'm glad that young guys are committed to keeping the Corvette tradition alive and well. It speaks well of the car and bodes well for the future.
As one of the "older" people you refer to (53) I think that many of us, not all, but at least a few, have had to wait until houses were paid for and kids cared for and educated before we had enough discretionary $$ to pay for a Corvette. That's why a few older guys may feel just a tiny tinge of resentment towards you young ones for being able to drive such a car at such a young age... many of us had to wait a looong time.
Some of the people you work with may be in the process of supporting families right now and at this point just can't afford a Vette. Or they can't put all the people in it they need to haul around town. They may be in their 25-30 year "waiting period."
Now you go out and enjoy that car and appreciate it. And don't worry about what anybody says about it.
Peace.
I've gotten a lot of crap from the people that I work with too just for mentioning my plan to buy a vette and like you said they are all married with kids. Suckers!!!
I'm 22, I'll be graduating, starting a full time position at a power supply consulting firm, and buying a C5 vette the week of May 1st. Let the countdown begin
BTW, I read the post about $700/yr in insurance. Try $1400/6mos!
I'm just trying to figure out how all you under-25's can afford the insurance.
I could afford the car at 18-25, I just couldn't afford the insurance 'til I was forty-something! If you're 18 and hanging around this forum, you ARE a Vette person and need to get one.
23 here....Wish I had my parents to help me out with Vette Purchase!!!! I got my first Vette when I was 19 ('98 Triple Black Convertible) I bought my Current car when I was 22. Go for it man, jsut dont strap yourself out! Buy what you can afford, and still have a life! You gotta be thinking about buying a house or something at this point. But once you buy one, you willmostlikely always keep a Vette around! Good Luck Bro.
My insurance isn't too bad w/ Geico - i'm 21 had license since age 16 ; buying my own '98 Vette and insurance is only $160/month for Geico's BEST coverage with all the bells and whistles..
I'm 52 and I pay for mine myself too, and several salaries for other people to pay for whatever they want to pay for by themself too....So I'm buying LOTS of cars!

Hi!!! I'm 18 and I found my Corvette under a cabbage leaf and didn't have to pay anything for it. State Farm insures it for $1 per year. And since finding it, so many gorgeous women have jumped in that sometimes I have to put the top back on, and with my new hood seal I get 450RWHP, and.............
Oh wait....it's not even 6:00AM here. Crud. There goes another perfectly good dream.............
When you speed just dont do it for long streches of road. I dont know whats the deal with cops buggin young people? I drive mine around 10mph over the speed limit everywhere and i never get bothered

5:33am....Jim, isn't that a little too early to start drinking? I'm in college and I'm not even THAT bad!
Hey, i just turned 23 and got it when i was 22 (my hello forum post is still up lol). I bought it with my own $$ after I graduated and got a job. I live with my parents, so the car and insurance is in their name = $1200/yr for full coverage insurance!!
I kinda see where you guys that get pulled over are coming from, but I never got pulled over in the few months i had it before winter started. I got limo tints on it though but the cops never harrass me. As long as it doesnt look like an immature driver is behind the wheel, n i think you're ok.
I get alot of hatred from co-workers and other drivers on the road. I look like im 19 still so i get alota glares from ppl. Too bad ive got a gf, cause the chicks LOVE this car... its close to a sportbike as far as its ability to get girls' attention on the road. BTW, im not white, so i get ALOT of WHERE DID YOU STEAL THAT CAR looks!! HAHAHA
