try taking the battery out and charging it

NEED HELP!!! Car won't start....
I was going out this morning to wash my car and as I got in it and tried to start it, nothing happened. Then I started hearing this knocking soound coming from under the hood. I thought it was the battery so to get this weird knocking sound to quit I disconnected it. As soon as I reconnect the battery the knocking sound comes back. The key is not in the ignition so I have no idea what could be trying to run. Any ideas... I am at a total loss... I had driven the car about an hour or two earlier with no problem at all.

Went out and tried to start it again, still nothing, but when you put the key and turn it to on, the knocking sound stops, as soon as you turn it to off, it starts again. Weird

did you figure out what drained it? no need to drain the optima too before your next outing. I'd make sure it's staying up- especially since you said it had worked not to long ago when you drove it last.

You should check it out. Something drained the last one. Don't want to do it to a new battery.

I had something similar when my battery died. BTW it was only 20 months old.
I got a loud "chattering" noise from the fuze box area in the pasenger footwell. The car was dead with no fault lights at all.
I replaced the battery with a Red Top and problem solved.

Your fine. I've seen the Crapy Delco battery on this cars go in less then 12 months.
Especially in the cold winter months, that really drains a battery, unless you have it hooked to a Battery Tender of some type.
Save your money on the checkup your fine.

I am in the same pickle
Went to the market and my car made some noise from below.Eveything is dead.No horn no radio,nothing in my car works.Towed it to the agency ,but its Sunday and the agency is closed.The tow truck driver tried to jump start it and it won't turn over.
I am at a loss.If it won't turn over with a jump start,I don't know if the battery is dead or not.When I had the hood up and turned the key,the light under thehood would go dim and I would hear strange noises.I couldn't tell where the noises are coming from.

Again it's your battery, he may of not been putting out enough juice to start your car, and your battery may of been beyond jump starting.
