AC Compressor making knocking noise, HELP!!

AC Compressor making knocking noise, HELP!!
Well today i was reving up my car letting some friends hear my new exhaust and i heard this awful knocking noise. I shut the car off, poped the hood and restarted it finding the noise coming from the compressor. Any idea what the problem might be??!

It could come from a few things:
If you have charged it lately, it could be over charged.
Expansion valve may be clogged causing ststem over pressure.
Belt could be slipping over pully or Idler pully could be bad.
Compressor could have gone BAD!

This is Bob at Fichtner Chevrolet,
If it only makes noise with the AC turned on, the odds are you have a compressor going bad. It could be something else, but I would have it looked at asap. If it is the compressor going bad, be sure who ever changes it out does a GOOD COMPLETE FLUSH of the ac system to eliminate any pieces of metal if the orifice tube shows any sign of metal in the system. If they don't you will probably take out the new compressor. Good luck and I hope for your pocket book that is not what it is. Before dropping a bunch of cash, ask your A/C guy to try putting in about 2 ounces of compressor oil and see if this makes the noise go away. If that does not work, I would guess your compressor is toast.
