So in summary, have the latest CL recall performed on your car and then have someone with HP tuners flash your PCM with the fuel shutoff at 255mph. This is a 100% solution for not getting stranded by the POS CL, however it is still possible to get the "pull key wait 10 seconds" meassage but you will still be able to drive
Can you clear the Pull Key message by hitting Reset or does it stay on while you drive till the next re-start?
Any one I need Help.
I have a 1999 automatic and the Colum lock display came on a few days ago, The car has had the recall done, I have got the CLB off e-bay and I installed it. This did not fix the problem. The car still shows the "pull Key" and "Colum Lock". Now for the interisting part of the problem If I pull the # 25 and 29 fueses and then diconnect the battery and let it set over night then connect every thing back up the next day the car will run fine until I shut it off and then back to the same old thing. What can I do?

Did you do step one which is to get rid of the recall harness?
Make sure you follow all the checks and step that 8Vette7 listed. He is THE authority on column lock issues.
Check battery voltage with the key in your pocket, NOT the ignition. It has to be at least 12.5.
Make sure that if your vehicle had the K harness installed as part of the recall it is REMOVED from the car completely.
Install a column lock bypass from a reputable vendor.
Make sure the column lock relay located in the passenger side toeboard is functioning as it should.
Question for 8Vette7 - his car being a 99.. would it have the k-harness or would it have the wire mod on the relay? You say you've never seen a car with both.
Question for Bob- Before these problems began were you able to turn your steering wheel with the key removed?
I got the new relay and that along with the new CLB now every thing works just fine
Thanks every one for all the help.
Iam glad that I found this site.
Very interesting. Until TraceZ had the failed factory column lock relay (inaddition to a failed GM K harness) I had never seen one. Since then (a few days back) this is the 3rd I have seen........
What can I say? That's Murphy's law and how it pertains to me.... If my car is going to break it's going to do it in a new more stubborn way! Look, my bad luck has kicked off a whole new trend! I'm a bad luck trend setter!
I have a 2001 Z06 with 13,000 miles on it. I pulled it out of the driveway last night and this "service coloum lock" came up on the dash? The steering wheel still moves freely on it but it shuts off when I try and drive it. Does anyone know how hard it is to install this CLB? And do I need to re-program the computer afterwards?
I got the Steering Column lock message on my DIC this morning... arrggg. Nice.
I talked to the service manager at my dealer, he talked to the head tech and said that i should try to short out the battery-- doing so might 'reset' the computer. Thoughts guys?

that's insane...never go back there !!!!!!! ever!!!!!!!!!
sometimes a new battery will fix it. did on my car
I am still having a problem with the steering lock. I just replaced the battery that was in my car when I bought it. It did not have the 120 Reserve that c4c5 reccomended. I put in an Interstate MT-78 which has 700cca and 120 reserve. The column lock unlocked as soon as I put it in, now two days later it is locked up again and I only hear clicks in the passenger footwell, just like it did the first time with the other battery. Whats going on, should I take the interstate back and get the AC Delco? Any advice? My Vette is locked up in the road in front of my house!!! The DIC only shows 12.1 on the Battery, and it was charged over night!
First you cannot tell anything about the battery health by using the Dash gages. You need to use a digital voltmeter directly across the battery posts with no key in the ignition, With the engine running the dash gages tell you the output voltage of the alternator. It's nice to know the alternator is charging but it is too late to be of use for the column lock system which runs LONG before the car starts. With the engine off and key on there are many electrical circuits loading the battery so the dash gage reading means nothing. By the way, the digital voltmeter reading needs to be at least 12.5 volts for the column lock electronics to function properly.
Second, it sounds like you have an electrical drain that is killing the battery. Go to this link:
The battery is not dead thou. I took it back out and put it on the charger and it shows 95% on the battery percentage, and when I reinstall it, it doesn't unlock. I did pull this up about my car and this is what has been done to it pertaining to this problem:

I bought this car in 08, will Chevrolet perform the Special Policy Bulletin #05081 under the recall still?
