Hey guys, what could be the cause for a squeak originating from the right front corner over bumps of my '99 FRC? I'm thinking a shock mount or something like that. It sounds like rubber is involved. Anyone else had this condition? Thanks for your help!
Yeah, I'll have to put it on the lift at work to check the RF suspension again. I have a heatshield vibration to fix too. My three guesses are upper or lower shock mount, swaybar link or bushing, or spring mount rubber... not sure why that would make noise but anything is possible. I guess I just wanted to see what the typical noise makers are on C5 front suspension.
Sway bar link would be the first area to visit. Had the same sound you describe and they were the culprits. The link nuts torque to 53 lbft and the clamp bolts torque to 43lbft. Just try loosening them and re-torqueing.
mmh. Ok Ill check those swaybar links again to be sure, but the creaking noise definately sounds more rubberish. There isn't supposed to be any grease or lube of any kind in the spring rubber-mounts is there?
Pull the bushing clamps and check for rust, dirt etc....between the bushing and the sway bar. Clean it up, add a little silicone grease and if that is where the sound was coming from, you will be good to go!

Let us know how your inspection goes. I had the squeak yesterday while it was cold and did a quick search this morning on the forum to see if there were any threads. Funny how things work out....
yeah it's crazy. Since this thread I posted, there are at least three other suspension squeaking threads that popped up! Maybe C5's all break in the same place at once....
I have already done the sway bar bushings with rubber grease and it did not solve the problem. The front spring with the rubber bushings were also replaced by the dealer,, This left a groaning sound of dry rubber. I used silicon spray lube on the rubber joints at the spring and the noise quit. However the squeek is still there. I think it is a shock. The price of the shock will "shock" you,, unless someone in cyberland has found a deal on C5 shocks for the adjustable suspension. My bet is the shock. I did switch to performance on the ride control and wala,, no squeek. Jim 99 Nassau Blue still squeeking along.
