I would like to know if anyone has done one of these and could give me a hand getting this stripped bolt fix? The bolt i stripped is the top bolt that holds the bushing for the swaybar on! Does anyone know what size Helicoil it would take? thanks much ditti
You need to find out the original thread size first. Then, you can look up the required drill size and get the special tap for the helicoil. Some of the repair kits come with the tool to insert the helicoil, but basically after drilling and tapping you screw in the helicoil with the tool and once in snap off the bottom "tang" that is used to screw it in.
There are some all in one repair kits with instructions if you know the size. I'm sure someone can look up the size, but if not send me an e-mail and exactly where this is located and I can look it up tonight when I get home.

If you have enough "meat" around the ruined hole you might consider a "Keensert". It does not require special taps or insertion tools. It goes to the next size larger standard tap size.
I stripped the front one.
Took the bolt to Napa and they matched it, cant remember the size of the kit but just go to down to NAPA and they will hook you up.
The bolt is from the rear swaybar ,the top one holding the the bushing into the crossmember. Napa huh? So how well do these things work cause it needs to hold something like 70fp? thanks ditti

I'm not postive what part is tapped here; is this is a tapped aluminum piece? If so Keen-sert or Heli-coil is far better than tapped aluminum. Heck, change them all while you're down there. Yes, it will take the torque. Years of Harley riding & aircraft design speaking...

Heli-coil is actually better than the stock threaded aluminum. They don't do it because of cost. Heli-coils are also better if you have to remove the bolt several times.
I looked at the parts list and they show a bolt but don't give the thread size. I know its metric so you will likely have to match it up. You might also want to do a google search on how to install a helicoil. I did this when I had to wire the bolts on my front rotors and there are a lot of folks who have written some pretty good instructions on the internet. For the bolt wiring, I found many home built aircraft web sites had very detailed information.
