Default Vararam Filter Question (Again)

I'm sure this question has been asked a zillion times, but, I replaced the Vararam race filter with their Baja filter. Vararam said I would lose about 4 h.p. No problem on the power, I just didn't want to ruin the motor because the race filter is very unrestrictive. The Baja filter much denser. Anyway, has anyone else gone to the Baja filter? Should I be concerned about water? Want opinions.

Thanks

Yes, you should be concerned about water. People say you don't have to worry driving through puddles. I don't know anyone that gets out and measures the depth. One teaspoon of water past the filter will hydrolock your engine. Water does not compress, aluminum does.

Get a decent filter, like a Blackwing.

Your killing me Bob You need to be concerned no matter what filter you use. Enjoy the new found power compliments of VARARAM and don't drive through more than a few inches of standing water.

My vette is slammed, I don't know who has locked their engine using the varam. I live in So. CA. I am just careful going through certain places that may appear flooded.

Korreck I've seen more than one or two posts by you in regards to the Vararam. Why do you have such a hard@n for them? To each his own but you really seem to be on a vendetta. I know, no such thing as ram air, exaggerated performance claims yada yada. And really you know how people are about their cars and mods on this forum. Nobody wants to hear how bad the product they have is. Over and over and over.

Korreck is an idiot and has yet to make a meaningful post.

That was one of my points Bobby. Who gets out of the car to measure? Why take the chance? Plus, it's a terrible filter. If the guy is so concerned with his ET's that he would use a lousy filter, then why not gut the nterior?

Korreck,

I asked you a question and I don't believe you ever answered me- In what discipline is your engineering degree and in what field do you put it to use for a living? Just curious as I said before...no hidden motives, just curious as you said it's how you know your conclusions about the Vararam are grounded.

You and poop top dream about me don't you! I'm so happy that I can give you two guys something to live for.

Do you work for a living? Bet you're on welfare, aren't you! Or as another member said, he thinks you sell these things. I have a suggestion. Get a real job and quit worrying about me. I'll be OK.

Bill, I'm trying to ignore you. I have a BSME and a BSEE. A required course of study is Physics. That is what I base my facts on. OK, now let me have it. Go ahead. Take your best shot.

You must be the only one here who does not know what kind of "engineer" Korreck is.

Here is his graduation picture.

Bill, I'm trying to ignore you. I have a BSME and a BSEE.

And a PhD in BS. And graduate work in "Applied BS".

From BS University where he now serves as Dean in the School of Advanced BS.

He comes here and continually posts BS to try and earn "grant money" to further his "curriculum" at the "school" .

More like you give us something to laugh at. But after all thats what clowns are for and you fit the bill quite nicely.

Woooooooo on "welfare". I think I'm going to faint.

Do you think I could become an "engineer" like you???

Oh, I found this photo of you from your "freshman" year.

I have had a chance to peruse your society's "periodical."

Have you written any articles for the "Journal"???

http://www.trains.com/maghomepage/ma...p?idMagazine=3

Impressive stuff. I can certainly see now, how you know as much as you do.

I think its the other way around. You lied and said you were "ignoring" me didn't you????

You hang on my every word, and you couldn't stay away if you wanted to.

I own you. Always have and always will. I have you seeing Vararams in your sleep. You cannot even make a post without taking a stab at either it, or theories on CAIs, or air filters.

I have made you base your life, your very existence on the futile endeavor of "ridding the world" of Vararams. Thats control. And you are my puppet. So DANCE !!!!

You are so spooked, and have failed so miserably at defending your positions you even think I sell Vararams. And soon, just before they take you away to the funny farm, you will insist that anyone and everyone who disagrees with you about anything ...is selling them too

It will get to the point to where if you and your wife disagree on what color to paint the kitchen, you will insist that she is selling Vararams.

You have argued till you were blue in the face against the Vararam and CAIs and have swayed no one. Only provided "entertainment" and amusement. No one here takes you seriously.

I have that kind of control over you and your dull life. And I know which of your strings to pull to get you to do my bidding. Like I said.....I own you.

VLvette saw it, and everyone else sees it too. You took a stab at it..... you tried......

Originally posted YESTERDAY by Korreck.....I had to take you off of my ignore list to see this intriguing evaluation. Now you're going back on it. ....
But you can't "ignore" me. Any more than any other puppet can ignore it's puppet master.

I'll let you know when its time for you to dance some more.

I think the filter that comes with the Vararam leaves a lot to be desired. I am not a big fan of the foam filters. I have yet to see an oil analysis on the foam filter that comes with the Vararam, and until I do I don't plan on using it. I have seen plenty of data on the K&N filters and I have all my own data on the Donaldson. The Donaldson appears to be a better filter (from a filtering standpoint) than the K&N, so I know the switch to the Vararam with a K&N filter for me was a trade-off in filtering ability. I can also feel the effect of the Vararam (won't get into the "ram" debate) so I believe I have gained some performance. However, this performance gain was a known trade-off on my part, filtering for power. I do plan to do an oil analysis at the next change so I will have my first direct comparison back to the Donaldson.

As for the water ingenstion, I am very careful about when/where I drive my car and rarely drive in the rain so it is not an issue. However, the owner's manual also states not to drive through standing water or you can hydrolock the motor so the stock system will have the same issues as well. Again, its a matter of degrees as you will likely ingest water with the Vararam before you would with the stock system, but the car is low and is designed to scoop up low stuff (air) so when water gets in the way it is going to get into the system as well. There is no intake system immune to this problem in my opinion, or else GM wouldn't have a warning about it.

I guess I am not sure what is bothering you? There is a lot of data that shows cotton type oiled filters do not filter as well as the OEM. You can find this on the web if you look. I would not think the vararam unoiled would do as good of a job as the K&N filter. My guess is if you oil it with PJ1 it would be close. I run the baja filter in my vararam. I do have a k&n that I have not installed yet. If you want to suck a lot of air, you have to give someplace, more filter area or less restrictive smaller one.

As for water, you sould never drive your car through standing water. I have not taken exact measurements, but stock you could most likely make it though a six inch deep pubble. With the vararam I would not try it.

Intakes and headers are like a$$ holes, we all have them. Oh, that was oppinions, silly me.

Take Care,

Take Care,
I should have been more specific. If I am driving in deep water, hydorlocking my engine will probably be the least of my worries. What I meant to ask is driving in hard rain, will the Baja filter do an adequete job? Also, Vararam said their Baja filter could be oiled with WD-40 and mine seemed to be a little oily when I put it in last week.
