Default Battery Question?

I have an 01. Had radio on while detailing. I guess too long, and needed to jump it. Battery volts read ok. Should I replace anyway? If should replace, what kind? I have read many negatives regarding red top. Thanks

I assume you have the OEM ACDelco AGM battery. I still have mine and it is as strong as ever. Remember though, that jumping it and driving your car around may not be sufficient to fully charge it. If you don't have a charger, have a shop do it. As far as replacement batteries go, I am looking into these guys:

www.odysseyfactory.com

Otherwise, here's a list of top-rated batteries:

Best for cold weather performance:
1. ProStart (Pep Boys), series 65: $60 CR Best buy
2. Interstate: $75
3. Advance Autocraft, series 75: $55CR best buy
4. Advance Autocraft, series 24: $50
Advance Autocraft, series 34/78: $75 CR Best buy
"All of these batteries deliver a good blend of life and cold-starting power in their group size."

Best for warm weather performance:
1. ProStart (Pep Boys), series 65: $60 CR Best buy
2. Advance Autocraft, series 75: $55 CR Best buy
3. Advance Autocraft, series 24: $50
4. Advance Autocraft, series 34/758 $75 CR Best buy
"The ProStart (1) and Advance (series 24 and 34/78) excelled in our life tests."

If reserve power matters most:
1. ProStart (Pep Boys), series 65: $60 CR Best buy
2. Interstate, series 75: $75
3. Advance Autocraft, series 24: $50
4. Advance Autocraft, series 34/78 North: $75 CR Best buy
5. Diehard, series 34/78: $90
"All excelled in reserve capacity. The Interstate and Diehard had superior CCA performance."

Good luck!

You might want to re-consider putting in any type of liquid-acid battery. The 97-2000 had a regular acid battery, and there are a lot of horror stories where the post-mounts cracked a bit and dumped acid on the computer - which sits right under the battery.
The 2001 was upgraded to a gel-type for that reason.

I was one of those horror stories - spent two days cleaning and rewrapping and cleaning and re-assembling.
And I was one of the lucky ones - caught it early before it ate up the computer. don' take a chance, it's an ugly sight.
