Hey guys, my problem started after i brought out the car from its winter nap, my battery was dead so i replaced with an optima and she fired right up and as i took her out she felt like she wanted to fly and then the check engine light came on. The next time i started her up the light was gone but my performance now is very sluggish, it doesnt want to downshift when i get on it. Any advice is always apperciated She is a 2003 automatic coupe with a blackwing intake and borla stinger exhaust.
The car seems to run ok but just not like she used to, is this just me... or could the dead battery play a role Thanks in advance GUY
When you disconnect the battery or it dies, the computer needs to relearn all of the air fuel ratio information for closed loop driving. It doesnt take very long and should already be there! The bad fuel theory is a good place to start. Get some good premimum fuel and add some Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner to the tank. Check your air filter and make sure that it is clean and make sure that your radiator air intake area infront of the radiator is free of trash. Are you seeing abnormal engine temps??
What code/codes were displayed when the check engine light was on??
Check the codes again and post the results. What gas mileage figures are you seeing on a steady state highway trip??
Thanks bill I'll check all out, also checked codes all were history only and all seemed to relate to low voltage still havent filled gas this year yet i was trying to use up last years but ill fill up today.Air filter clean and no debris.Engine temp normal also car seems to run fine just not all that peppy when you step on it around 40 mph just seems to downshift then almost imeadiatly upshifts back. thanks again for the help realy apprciated Guy

Is this an early '03 or a later '03? If early, you can much more easily check and change the fuel filter. If late 03 or any 04, the filter is in one of the fuel tanks. Much more costly to change. Hope it's just bad gas, the car needing to "relearn" the fuel/air ration, etc.
