Default need advise, headers yes or no????

I have a '02 6M conv that's at this point pretty stock. I have added A GHL bullet exhause (cat back), Vararam, CF Air brideg, and PF coupler. I am considering having LG headers w/catts installed. I Was quoted $2,500. installed with new wires, plugs and 160 deg thermostat.

My question's are one, are the headers worth doing? I'm not planning on traking the car or doing any major racking. I would like a car with some HP and perfomrance though. two, are LG's the right choice and worth the money? three, what about resale value? will these hurt the value?

Looking for your advise...............

Terry,

I have an '02 Z06 with many of the same type of modifications that you have (see my signature). The headers are definitely worth the expense.

One other thing, be sure and have a tuning done once the headers are installed. In my case the PCM could not feed enough fuel to the engine once I had increased my air flow with headers, VaraRam, 1.8:1 rocker arms, Corsa, etc. After tuning, I picked up an additional 30 RWHP.

Good luck with your car.

Hey jim, Thanks for the advise. They quoted me another $450 to dyno tune the car once everything is done! I figured this was a must!!!! Not sure what to do with rockers and springs yet.

Thanks again,

Absolutely...And I spent $650 for mine, but they found another 34rwhp and 54 ft/lbs rwtq within 5 pulls. This was before my header install, too.

Kooks makes a great set of headers at a much lower price than LG headers. IMO $3000.00 for headers and a dyno tune is very steep.
You might want to install 4.10 or 3.90 gears instead of headers if you can't afford to do both. The gears will give you greater bang for the buck than headers on a internally stock car.

Terry, if you're gonna stop with headers, save your $3000. But if there's heads and a cam in your future, by all means make the "investment." Resale depends on to whom you sell - you just never know.

I agree with the others here. If you're keeping your mods relatively moderate, then the Kooks would be a far better choice, at a much better price. If you're going for the serious gusto (or plan to) then by all means LG's are the way to go. HTH

$2500.00 is pretty steep for headers.

First of all, thanks guys for all of your opinions and advice. I'm not sure how far I'm going to take the car regarding engine mods. It is a Conv and probably not the best car fot serious power. Many of you guys talked about Kooks, what could I expect to pay for these? the price on the LG's w/cats is $1850. + install.

Thanks again,
Terry

P.S. My girlfriend is convinced there is naked women on this forum somewhere and that's why I'm on it all the time........

I paid $1500 for a Stainless Works complete system for my 02 Z06. 1 3/4" primary headers cats, 3" mid section and 3" mufflers. I am VERY pleased with the results! 375 RWHP/365 Tq. Dyno Tune is a must!!!

you will pick up 30-40 HP depending on other mods.

$3000. Look for a better deal. I saw EG's header install. His headers are

Check out QTP headers. They claim easy install and no tune needed.

I have the QTP's and love them. Very easy installation, rocker covers don't even need to come off. O2 sensors are at stock locations and no adapters needed. They are also the only stainless Tri-Y header for the C5. Here is some reading:

Some great ideas and advise so far. I was faced with a similar choice with exhaust and price, I went with the GHL' s and love them. Great quality and workmanship, but not the cheapest. LG's seem to have a similar rep! what about Kooks, I'm hearing some good input regarding these. Anyone have either one of these that can five me their first hand experience........

Have the Kooks but would defiinitely go with the LG's - So to head off any threads to follow: EB20003 the AFR was tuned last year before headers, but was only slightly rich at that time -tuner called a minor "tweek."
