If I were to change the heads on my 2004 automatic what would you recomend? I have headers, B&B exhaust X pipes and Vararam. Dont race the car just looking for a little more punch.
The first thing you should do is a 3.42 rear end. I would stick with the stock converter. Get a 224/224/114 cam, a pair of Stage 2 LS6 heads and a good tune. That's the best bang for the buck. Go to a converter if you are going to track the car, otherwise stick with stock.
In my opinion, care must be taken with the heads only approach. I am currently researching this, and while I love the AFR 205's, I think installation without a timing chain upgrade is asking for a problem down the road due to the beefier valve springs. My current thought is to modify some LS1 heads with Z06 valves and titanium retainers to keep the valve train very light and then go with the Crane 1.8 rocker arms to get a little more open duration and lift on the valves with the stock cam. I don't want to overload my timing chain though.

I agree, doing a good h/c will reap alot more benefits than heads only upgrade. If money is tight, id do a nice cam-only upgrade.
