Breath better or filter better. If you want more air, stick with the foam one that came with the Vararam. If you want better filtration, put in the K&N and make sure its sealed in place. I permantly installed mine with silicone to prevent any leaks.

The original filter sucks! Very little filtering. I did the same, put in a K&N and I clean it monthly. It is a tight seal on mine. If you want an exrta .01 at the trtack (no idea what improvement) you can take it out pretty easy at the track. I would not recomened it, as I have seen an F Body at the track sans filter, launch, and then die, would not idle ect... A large leaf had sucked in to the MAF past the removed filter :o
There have been several posts about this and you would be amazed how much crud gets sucked in a Vararam, and how often it needs cleaning.

I have the Baha that came with my system 2 years ago. I took it off about a month ago and it was clean after 6000 miles. Not dirt was on my MAF or throttle body.
Gosh, I would also like someone to explain to us why a K&N filter is a waste of money? I know the foam filter flows better and maybe gives you a horsepower or two more, but the K&N is a superior filter to protect your engine during daily driving while still getting most of the benefits of the Vararam. I went to order the K&N filter from LAPD, but by the time they added tax and shipping, it was going to cost something like $65, so Performance International has my vote for $40.85 and free shipping.
