Exhaust modificatios alone without long tube headers will not really give you any noticable gain in horsepower and in some cases you may even lose some power over the stock system. Yes they sound better for sure but thats about it. Stick with some KooKs long tube headers which give you a big boost in horsepower along with your new exhaust. Shorty Headers will give you a little increase in HP but not as much as the long tubes.

Find a good 'vette supplier (hopefully a supporting vendor) and buy the parts through them, as well as the install. Ask around, get some recommendations from other and I am sure you will find a reputable shop.

I suggest this because in the long run, should any issues arise, you will have an easier route to warranty or upgrades.

Default Headers

I went with the Dnyatech system I don't work on cars much, but after reading the directions I did it all by myself in about 10 hours. It was pretty EZ. If you have help you can cut a couple hours off that time. So go for it and have the pride of doing it yourself. By the way you will love the sound coming from the Borlas!

Do it. Best Mod I ever did. And I installed by myself with one jackstand and one jack. 8 hours later. More sound. More power. Dyno was 328 with headers, intake, exhaust.

I agree on installing a set of Kooks Long Tube headers and a intake for performance gain. You forgot to mention whether yours is a A4 or MN6, as with the A4 there will be some reprogramming of the PCM required. With the MN6, just bolt in and go (FWIW, mine is MN6 and I had mine tuned after the headers and intake install). As with other things, there are intakes and then there are intakes...which are you installing? Speaking of installation, should be a straight bolt-in affair made easier on a lift...wouldn't attempt it on my back...although some on this forum have done that as well.
Good luck with your mods.

Do it the change in performane will bu Huge. The Intake is easy and the LT's are time consuming but do able. I opted to have my LT's, Cats and X-pipe installed by a local Vette shop. I am glad I did not buy a Cat-Back, instead I put the money towards LT's. I am still going thru the stock mufflers and the sound is very stealthy.

I was never convinced that my 98 coupe or my 02 Z06 would benifit much from headers. I went to Corvetts at Carsile PA last summer and bit the bullet on a complete exhaust system for the Z06. all i can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PERMAGRIN from EAR TO EAR!!!

I purchased a Stainless Works 1 3/4' primary header, random tech high flow cats, 3" mid section with X pipe and 3" Stainless works mufflers. i gained about 35 HP with the headers and some more with my VARARAM intake. I had to have the car dyno tuned! All in all I have 375 corrected rear wheel HP and 365 RWTQ.

The mufflers are not too loud during part throttle cruise and sound wicked cool at WOT!

Here are some pics:

Before you decide on an exhaust system, listen to someone elses system to make sure it isnt too loud or too quiet. It will save you LOTS of time and money!!!

Im sure if you let us know where you live, some one will give you a ride in their car!! i would in a heart beat!

I'm having Kooks LTs with xpipe/cats installed next week on my 02 z06. I've driven z06s with this mod only and it does make a difference, performance and sound.

Do it!

LT Headers sound great and will generate more power in a Z06 than a coupe or vert. Reason is, the stock headers do an OK job of outflow. The big benefit of LTs occur when you are moving in a bigger air flow through the combustion chamber and have a greater need for more outflow through the exhaust manifold. This is realized quicker through Z06 because of their better flowing LS6 than LS1 heads. The benefits are mazimized when you do a H/C.

I learned this expecting big gains from VR, LGs and Route 66 exhaust. Great sound, marginal increase in performance. Not until the AFR H/C did I get the real power I always wanted from my A4. Best,

I have the QTP's, the headers were the single best mod to the car that I have done (except maybe Zaino )
