Is there a way to do it? I'm having a hell of my time with the TC at the drag strip. I supposedly turn it off with the TC button, the light on the instrument panel comes on and I get the TRACTION CONTROL OFF message on the DIC, but the damn thing is still on when I go to do a burnout. I sometimes have to turn it off and on a half-dozen times or more before it actually goes off pissing me AND the track officials off.
Good morning Trooper. Most of us run in 'Competition Mode'. Hold the button down for about 10 sec and it should switch to comp mode. This shuts off traction control but leaves active handling on. It could save your azz if you lose it on the strip.

The problem is I don't have competition or any other kind of mode as my 2000 doesn't have the active handling option (it became a standard feature in 2001+ cars). I only have traction control and it's either off or on.
Steve,
I have found short of a line lock the best way around it is the method of staging.
I find:
TC off
Roll through water
nail gas hard in 1st
then just touch the brakes to hold it
shift to 2nd and finish.
I still have it happen a few times when the car walks sideways doing the burnout.......damn smart car
Some more practice and you will be
TC is usefull in wet conditions
This is with an A4 car? I hit the throttle hard without having my foot on the brake?
Yep, I do it on both our 00's & the 97'.
My LH foot is just touching the brake pedal so as soon as I nail the gas its right there.
I will be teaching Julie my Wife this on the 23rd. She has her launch/rt down so now its time to work on her 60 foots
I recommend you practice prior to the trip so you get it down pat.
Only procedure that I have found yet that works best for me time and time again. Screw a line lock
Ok, so if I'm understanding this correctly, the fact that I have the brakes applied is what's causing the TC to activate even though I have it turned off?
We need the the reverse logic TC like SLP sold for the F-body's we had! I forget to turn it off and that ruins a run every time. I would think your problem is most likely because you have your foot on the brake.

Any ideas? Thanks!
Xtrooper-
Have you had abuse mode turned off in the tune. I have mine on sometimes it triggers during the burnout. I also have had to cycle the TC on and off, tho. I wonder if you do it to soon in the startup cycle it doesn't always take. Regards, Jeff

Wow at first I thought this was advice for a MN6. I was like how in the heck would I shift gears during my burnout. glad to see it is advice for an A4.....
BTW - I have a line lock and it was one of the best mods added....
If your TC is activating with it turned off, something is wrong with your car. TC will not activate when it is turned off. TM may kick in a little but it is nearly unnoticeable, and during a burn out TM should not come into play.
SLP still sells them. I wonder if they'd work on the cars like mine without active handling and just traction control like the F-body cars?
Someone needs to develop a method of changing the default from on to off or in my case, since I have active handling, competition mode. Wonder if a hand held tuner can change the defaut?

I think the default is in the correct position. It is safer this way. I do not see what the problem is. Once you turn TC off or to comp mode it stays there unless you turn the engine off and restart, or you cycle the switch.
Like I stated above if his car is cycling TC off and on there is something wrong with the car. It will not cycle on its own.

I rarely drive the car in the rain and it doesn't snow in South Florida so traction control is not needed or wanted except if I get caught out in the rain. I do want active handling on at all times so I just want a way to have that as the default.

It is a bad idea Craig. Just looking out for a fellow forum brother.
