The "grey" filter we have will fit your B2 unit without any modification. Thr Green filter requires you to trim the ducts coming up from the fog lights. The K&n filter you talk about is not an exact fit and requires a "gasket kit" to seal properly. Unfotunately our demand for the grey and Green filters is exceeding the current supply so there is a wait of several weeks to receive one. Cost of the filters is $49 for the grey and $59 for the Green with $8 shipping.

The filters are washable and reuseable and guaranteed for 200,000 miles. K&N has a filter that is a close fit but requires a gasket kit to seal. The number is 33-2522 and I have seen it priced from The LAPD
at 49.95 plus shipping. We believe that our filters are superior to the K&N and are made to fit.

I recently got a Vararam and mine came with the grey filter. I was curious as to who makes this filter? It fits extremely well in the airbox! I was very impressed with it, I figured that I might need to use something to help seal things up, but the filter fit so well on it's own that I didn't need to do anything else.

"Trim the ducts coming up from the air filter"? Could you be more specific?

I just installed my Vararam w/the "Green" filter this weekend and everything seemed to fit PERFECTLY. (Although I used none of the rubber spacers you included with the kit and all my original hardware) Where on the ducts are you talking about trimming?

A little plug here, I was skeptical about your system. Let me tell you (And everyone else who reads this) that for the increased throttle response alone that I received, this system is the bomb!

Thanks!

Ken

The trim required for the Green filter;

The top side of each ram tube has a 1/4 inch rise on the outer edges to create a capture seal. this was ideal for the foam filters and also for the Gray filter ( This is manufactured by a Donaldson subcontractor) The Green filter was designed from day to offer better flow and filtration than any filter to date. This required us to encrease its size from 7/8ths thickness to 1 1/4 inch with 4-5 pleates per inch . This thickness encrease requires the ducts to be trimmed to lower the upper airbox, We then supply a new gasket kit with the filter to change from a capture to a crush flange. this gives the clearance and seal needed.

To trim the ducts on the car takes about 15min using a Dremel tool with a cutoff wheel. You would then install the gaskets ( they have one sided adheasive) total time required is about 30min.

ALL current kits come from the VR factory with all of these updates allready in place.

Best Regards VR tech

Pat,

First off let me start with I am a satisfied Vararam user, not one of those Vram bashers. Not to be ornery, but we have been asking for the opportunity to buy the Grey Filter ever since it was introduced between LAPD and Vararam with no luck. So while the K&N may not be as good as yours, at least we can get it. How long is the wait for the Grey, and how does one go about ordering?. Why does Vararam believe it is better than the K&N?

As we have been waiting so long , will you take the K&N (bought from LAPD, but yet to install) as a trade-in for the Grey ? I was going to build the "Gasket Kit" this weekend, but if I can get one that is a direct fit, I would prefer that.

Congrats on a great product

Ed

I Can't install what I can't buy so I got the K&N unit. I used silicone to permanently seal it to the VaraRam. To clean it you just remove the upper unit, filter and all, from the MAF take it to the utility room sink and start cleaning. Works great and it never leaks.

The filter makes me regret getting the vararam. If Id do it all again, Id go with the blackwing, or cut and mod my stock systems.

I did the same thing, but Donaldson is a good name in filters and the Green is better than the K&N. Not sure enough to change, but when the supply comes back I may reconsider.

I just received my "Green" replacement filter from Vararam. The only problem I see is that it's not green and I wonder if it needs to be oiled first. Looks like a dark gray filter that is over 1" thick. I have a call into Vararam to check. I will trim the ducts and install it this evening.

If it's Grey you don't need to trim the ducts.....
You only need to trim the ducts with the green filter.....
see the second post in this thread from CF member VaraRam industries.
