Default A/C Fan Noise

My fan is starting to make a clicking noise when I have the air running in the Vette. Quiet at low fan speeds, but gets louder until I put the fan almost all the way on high and it goes away. Any easy fix for this?? If not the dealer can tackle if for a fair PRICE when I do the column lock plate removal.

Thanks!

Here is the deal on the fan: Do it your self. Its a 1 hour job and is very easy!!! The fan motor in in the passengers foot well. You will need to remove the cover below the dash (knee bolster) The fan is on the under side of the HVAC air box. WARNING!!! Disconnect the battery before you remove the fan. The body of the fan is 12 VDC and if you ground it by accident, the fan will spin at high speed!!! OUCH!!!!

You most likely have some trash in the fan rotor. If the fan motor lower bushing is making the noise, you can replace the fan or do what I did. Drill a small hole in the bottom of the motor where the bushing lives and add some light machine oil!!

Let me know if you need any more info!!

Hey, Bill, mine makes noise like something's in it. The faster it goes the louder it gets. Almost like a piece of paper in there. How do you kow if trash is in there, and how would it have gotten there?

Where can I find instructions on how to remove the fan, if necessary?

BTW, after washing my car, and even getting caught in a heavy thuderstorm, I still haven't seen my service ABS, traction control, active handling lights since the harness swap from side to side. I still have the pin you sent waiting for the right moment, which I hope is never.

The HVAC air intake is under the windshield cowl. It is directly below the passengers side windshield wiper shaft. it is a large opening and it DOES NOT have any screens or filters!!! So,,trash and animals can get in that area! Trust me I know!! Thats a LONG story but a funny one!!

The fan removal is easy if your a midget!! You will need to get in the passengers foot well, remove the toe board and the closeout panel under the dash.

It easy to remove but you will need to contort your self under there to see the fasteners! Disconnect the plug, remove the rubber hose (it supplies cool air to the motor) Remove the screws Oh yea, did I mention that you will need to disconnect the battery or pull the fan fuse? Once the screws are removed, the fan just drops down.

You will find paper in the fan or in the air box. I vacuumed mine out, it was full of dog food, paper and a mouse nest!!!!

Reassembly is in reverse order.
