Help! Does anyone know if there is a way to repair the threads in the block for the head bolts? We were putting the heads back on after a rebuild, when torquing the head bolt on the #7 cylinder we found that the threads were stripped. Any advice would help. Thanks DonF
Someone else just had this happen, I posted the GM tools listed for repair of the threads. You may also want to consider ARP studs, this will allow for full thread engagement prior to loading the threads.
how did you strip the threads? are you 100% sure the coolant was removed from the hole? easy way to crack a block, you are probably aware of the lower torque angle rating of the shorter bolts(the 2, not the 5 on each head)

Yes all the coolant was removed, the block was prepared at a speed shop. While tightening the bolts, at about 40 lbs. the bolt just went around, when pulled out it was full of alum. YUK!
