Default Smooth Air Coupler Installation

I recently purchased one of the smooth Couplers to replace the accordian type stock air coupler. It is so stiff, I couldn't get it on the throttle body or the air bridge.

This coupler looks like a big piece of radiator hose and it is tappered

Does anyone have any tips? I tried putting a little dab of soap on it to make it slide better, but it almost seems it is to small.

I have 2003 C5 Coupe

Thanks in advance for any replys:

I would suggest soaking it in a pan of hot water for a few minutes, to soften it up. Then, maybe just rub a little motor oil on the ends, to allow it to slip over the connections.

You can put your hand inside the coupler to start it on the throttle body, and then use two small (pocket) screwdrivers to gently start it on the air duct.
Good luck!

Spraying the ends (inside and outside) w/ silicon will help greatly. Napa sells it.

I wonder what you have. If it looks like a radiator hose I would consider returning it.

What I would use is a silicone coupler, not rubber. The outside surface should be shiney with about a 1/8" wall thkns. It should swage down about mid-length to match the outside diam of the TB.

Eklers, Mid America and lots of other suppliers carry them, about $50.

Hope this helps. Good Luck.

I got one of these from MA - looked out of place and tacky. I sent it back and put the stock one back on. I doubt if it did anything anyhow. My $.02

Thanks!!!! I KNEW there was a place that'd sell them for less than $30+.

Anyone have any insight to what size reducer I need for a stock '00 MAF to TB?

Lube that sucker!

Seriously, a little twisting and pushing it should slide on.

Not to start a coupler bashing but, is it for cosmetics or is there performance gain? If performance gain, then why is the new Z06 still have the ribbed style. Seems the Z06 could have boasted with more HP.

GM probably just stuck to the good old reliable accordion merely for the reason that it's something they know won't fail. They put a new part on, and who knows.

I've read there's a small performance gain with the coupler. It's also nice having a new part to install.

These couplers (siliconeintakes) wont work if you are using the stock airbridge. The TB is 4" as is the MAF but the stock airbridge is a oval shape, aprox. 4" x 4.75" ??? at least at the TB side as I remember. The 4" to 3.75" coupler works with after market airbridges like the carbon fiber power duct by BPP.
