From: Biloxi MS Theres something happenin' here, What it is ain't exactly clear.....
Also, i got under there with a flat head screwdriver and a box end wrench.
Pushed the screwdriver between the AC Line and the header.
Pryed it out enough to get the box end wrench in there and used that to push the AC line up against the frame as much as It would go.
By the way Tim you were saying at one time about the mess it would be if it did burn a hole in my line there is no mess or evidence that anything happened at all. It ovious a small burn in the rubber hose under the insulation cause after I put about 1/2 lb in it I started to hear the hiss. Not sure if pullin the line over will give me enough room or not yet with the new one.
Ok I need to vent a little so excuse this: Well I went to take the a/c line off tonight thinking just maybe I could remove it without removing the header. WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!! Why would something be that easy for me. To start with I had to lift the car and remove the tire just to beable to get to the bolt on the back of the compressor and now I knew my front tires were wearing thin but to my shock the inside edges of my tires are shredded!!! So now I get to spend $ tomorrow on new tires too... <grumble> Well I finally get the bolt out and thinking this was gonna be the hardest part then I go to remove the line Wrong Mr. Chong it ain't coming out no way! So now I've gotta make the decision to to either lossen up the header or lossen up the compressor to get it out! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not even any staining on the Headers from the refrigerant and oil? That's a high pressure line, unless the heat wrap contained the mess somehow....
I seriously doubt that you'll get more room then what you had before, UNLESS (let's brainstorm);
Is it possible to totally re-route that line? I'm thinking that at the firewall side, where the port is, the line takes a 90 and goes down. Could that be straightened out so that the line stays straight... THEN let it drop down closer to the compressor and after the bad runner??????
No the prob is the 90 lines needs to up between the frame "side" and header tube so that I can turn the block that bolts to the compressor to get it out from between the frame rail "bottom" and the headers and where the hose trys to pull up at is right where the rubber and the metal connect again which is really flared out and it will not come through. I tried every angle I could think of for over an hour tonight and got no where. I'm gonna try again tomorrow but thing is even if I do get it out as tight as it is in there I'm not sure I could ever goatmonkey the new back in with everything installed. Right now I'm looking really at removing the a/c compressor I think that has to be the easier route right now. One way or another that hose is coming out tomorrow though its lucky my air cutoff wheel was to big to fit down there tonight!! I do have a new hack saw blade though :grin:
Note to self need to take meds before working on Corvette from now on. hehe

Well I was talking about modifying the new line to eliminate the problem entirely...
Hey? Take that hacksaw blade to the rubber line! What the hell... it's already toast.
FYI I think you have to remove the waterpump also to remove the compressor...

1/4" is all I could get
I've recieved some PMs and as I thought the 1/4" air gap between the AC line and that runner is fine. No long term problems... unless your name is RIP1976 that is, then again that wasn't a long term problem either... it happened rather fast!
Well, Chalk up another A4 that had the ac line eaten by these headers. I wrapped the header and moved the ac line like everyone suggested.
These will be up for sale very soon.
If someone wants a set already wrapped. 320$ shipped gets you a set
