Default ebay Header Install

I posted last week about buying a set of the C5 headers that are being sold on ebay. Well, I had them installed this morning at RPM Motorsports in Lewisville, TX. I can tell you the install went very well and took a little over 3 hours. The passenger side dropped in from the top and the driver side required an inch or so jacking of the motor. The only glitch was the O2 bungs were not postioned correctly and new ones had to be installed. I did not use the "H" pipe supplied with the headers as it was too wide and took space needed for the HiFlo Cat installation. See the added pix of the install.

The sound is a nice rumble with the Ti mufflers at cruise and bellows at WOT.

Looks like a good clean install. Everything is straight and tucked into where it belongs. Great job

The quality is very good and the fit was fine except for the O2 bung placement. If you use these headers on a '01-'04, the air pump tubes have to be repositioned or blocked off.

The sound is like I said, nice rumble at cruise and loud at WOT with Ti mufflers.

I didn't have any tuning done so I have no idea about the HP increase, but it certainly feels stronger. I'd say they are definitely worth the money. I have under a grand in the mod, including the install, gaskets, clamps, cats, and reducers.

Pix seem to work fine for me, but I'll repost if still a prob.

Yes, they're the $299 ones listed on ebay. No idea who makes them. Some say Stainless Works, others say SLP. I think they're probably knock-offs from China. Remember, nothing comes with them other than a "H" connector that doesn't really fit. No instructions, gaskets, O2 extentions, reducer pipes, etc.

work good now!!!! they look pretty good. i can see the o2 bung you are talking about. the fit is right. i guess the only other thing is the longevity. pretty sure there is hp gain over stk. they are headers!!! minus the directions and the correct h pipe. looks like you got a good deal. keep us informed on the quality. the to good to be true myth may have just been busted!!!! as long as they hold up.

Those are some really nice looking headers. Where did you get your highflow cats from if you don't mind me asking. I'm looking to get some as well. Thanks for the pictures.

I just bought a set of these and haven't even taken them out of the box yet, but my mind has been eased because it looks like they fit Though now I'll have to see about moving the AIR tubes on my 01 Z.

Constant expansion and contraction from heating and cooling will cause cracking over time particularly in a stress area like a welded joint. Stainless Steel has a higher rate of expansion than mild steels and is harder, which lead to the problem, if the workmanship and quality is not there.

George,

Looks nice! I look forward to seeing/hearing this in person. Not sure if I'll be at Cruiser's tonight. They're calling for rain anyway. I know you don't take your vert out when it's raining since you had the top permanently welded down.

Glad to see you finally picked something and are pleased with the results. I know you were doing a lot of research before choosing LT's.

Well i just bid on a set. I see there is 4 or5 exact sets from the same guy. Somebody has bid on one of them so I thought i would bid on one of the other sets that had no bids. I didn't want to bid against the other guy and ruin a good deal for him. That would be cruel.

So you woudln't be worrried about the pipping it's self cracking but more the welds?

if thats the case I have a buddy with a welder that will fix those problems for free or next to nothing... and 3 hours install doesn't sound bad at all. So even if they do crack I could pull them out in an afternoon have them rewelded and installed before bed.

I noticed people talkinga bout rust... is there things one can do to protect the headers to keep them from rusting without sacrificing performance? IE high tempature paint?
