I have to replace my battery in my 01.. I am looking at a yellow DEKA, deep cycle or Optima red top.. Was anyone used or is using these batteries and can make a recommendations? I need to get one ASAP..
Ya really cant go wrong with a red top. i purchased one and two months later it died. they replaced it with out ANY questions asked. the second one has been PERFECT! The look nice and work great!
Three year warranty!!!!
Just make sure that you look at the battery manufacture date and get one that is close to the date your purchasing the battery. i have seen some in the stores that don't do lots of OPTIMA sales that the battery is 2 years old!!
The Battery store is telling me that I would need a deep cycle battery that you can recharge alot.. They are saying that the Optima can be damaged by constantly running it down and recharging.. Both batteries are the same price..
If you have a kick-butt stereo and like to crank it up with your engine off, get a deep cycle. If not, get a standard leak-proof battery. The Exide Orbital seems to be the battery of choice these days. Remember too, that a deep cycle battery's lifespan is almost always shorter than an otherwise equivalent non-deep cycle battery.

I bought one two weeks ago with a 3/06 mfg. date that was bad. Best to have them double-check the voltage before you take it home...
Hi,, I bought a new Optima Redtop about a month now. No complaints. Has a good warranty too. I would suggest that after you intall it put a charger on it for a few hours to give it a 100% charge. Sometimes when it sits on the self for a few months it looses a bit of juice. Picked mine up at Walmart,,

Bill,
You surprise me knowing how sharp you are and demanding. You bought one and 2 months later it died?!?!?!?! You got another and it's OK. For the price those people charge I find it amazing you'd go with a "replacement".
Those things are hit-and-miss garbage. You confirm my post above!
Not sure where you guys are getting your info but based on personal experience, and MANY forum members the Optima red top is a piece of shi*.
Do yourself a favor and do a search. MANY, MANY, MANY documented problems with these batteries.
Wally World batteries have been good to me. Don't laugh, It's just a car and just a battery.
Really, SEARCH on Optima, they have problems.
They pay a lot for advertising, and that's what you get. Don't drink the Kool Aid.....

110%.... I've had 3 Redtops in 4.5 years. Dead cell, Dead cell. Dead cell. These are "good" batteries???? "You can't go wrong w/ an Optima????" Please-----These batteries are over priced, pieces of sh*t.... I wouldn't have one if ya gave it to me for free. Bill Curlee buys one and 2 months later if goes south on him. If that don't tell you something about Optima Redtops, I don't know what will....

When I replaced my battery in my 01 I checked with a local garage that sold several brands and stopped selling the optima redtop because of problems. Still did not want to believe it so checked with a corvette shop in jersey did not recommend a optima. Checked with corvette mike through email. He would not bad mouth the optima but said he did not use them. Tired of all the bs with these batteries. When and bought a interstate which I have used for years as replacements and never a problem. Going on 2 years with the interstate not a problem ever. I usually use a tender if the car will not be used for more than 2 weeks. But it always starts even after 2 weeks. There are alot of people buying everyday batteries in all kinds of cars. They buy them and forget about it. We should not be having these constant issues with batteries. Afriend of mine did not listen bought a red top had it replaced in 6 months. A piece of sh--.
I was in the market for a new battery recently and was stronly considering the Red Top. But after doing some research here, I changed my mind and wound up buying an Exide Orbital. Too soon to tell about longevity of it, but so far it is working OK, and I don't have to worry about it leaking like a stock battery might do to you.

Now, that's some pretty interesting reading.....Optima Redtop fanatics kindly take note...
For every different battery that is sold there is always someone that has a problem with it.. that's normal. All I know is that the Red top has a 10 year warrenty, and if something goes wrong with it in the first 3 years, there's a complete full replacement .... so where's the problem..

I've been buying new cars since 1966. And, there have been a bunch. I never had to replace the battery on any of those cars due to "abnormal" battery failure. They all were replaced after several years of trouble free service.
I went thru 3 Redtops in 4.5 years on my Corvette. I would call that a problem. I'd also call replacing a new Redtop 2 months after you install it a problem. I'd also call replacing a Redtop 6 months after you install it a problem. This forum is loaded w/ members complaining about premature Optima Redtop battery failure----I'd also call that a problem.
If you bought one of these pieces of crap, I wish you all the luck in the world w/ it---you're going to need it.

The problem is the time and agrravation to replace it if it goes bad. Also the worry if the car is going to start. I want piece of mind. I am also pretty sure that noone is going to have a redtop for 10 years some don't make it 2 months.
