My external temperature sensor has been acting pretty irratic for the past couple of years. For example, it was about 85 today but the sensor said 57. The only problem I have found is if the sensor says the temp is pretty low (like 25 when it is really 95) the ac won't come on. Other than this, is there really a problem with this sensor reading incorrectly? For example, does the computer use this temperature value to set anything related to fuel injection?
Most of the time the connection gets corroded and can be cleaned. Unplug it, spray it out with WD-40, examine the sensor and connector and hook it back up. Most of the time,,that fixes it.
It just is used in the HVAC operating computations. Not for any engine stuff!!

Just put a new one on Tuesday I was having the exact same problem.
I don't think it has anything to due with the feul system?
Cost me $10 from the dealer, stuck it on in the parking lot.
Everything is working great now.
