I just purchased a 2001 coupe with 17000 miles. I have never been to Carlisle, and since it is only a 2 hours drive I was going to get some mods done there by experts. My car is bone stock, and I wanted to increase the feel of low end torque. I am ordering a Honker today and it will be on the car within a week. Naturally, I wanted to keep the cost down, and get the most bang for the buck. I like a quiet ride, and foor the most part it will be a daily driver. I hope to hit a track for fun, I don't care about winning. I guess a tune is in order, I heard you can get lifetime tunes. Can I get one at Carlisle? What other stuff should I get done while I'm there? Do I have to make appointments? And, is there any other places in central Pennsylvania that deserves my buisness?
I also have some good garages by my house with experienced repairmen, what product can they install without a tons of experience on the Vette. The guy I'm describing has 20 years at a chevy dealership, and he just went in buisness with his uncle in a local shop. Both really good guys with a really good garage.
Thanks in advance guys. By the way, I love it, I want to love it more! Ter
ECS (EastCoast SuperCharging) is over in New Jersey by Great Adventure..
I would go to Carlisle and see the various options before you just jump into things. It will save you time and money IMHO.
The biggest mods at Carlisle seem to be getting cat back systems installed. They won't increase your power, but upgrade the sound and looks of you Vette. I am not sure if anyone will be doing header installs or any tuning.

while you're at carlisle, checkout the autocross.
I think you would enjoy running you car on the autocross course.
Thanks for the replies. I knew they had dynos there, and I'm suprised that someone does not tune. Again, I'm new so I really don't have a grasp on what is needed for a good tune. It will be a blast learning about all the stuff I do with my car. The whole Carlisle thing is a mystery to me, I have never been there. I'm fortunate to have it two hours from my home.
I was thinking of joining the local Vette club here in Centre county. They run an autocross at a local airport. The next meeting is coming up soon, so I'll have to introduce myself.
Regards,
Ter
While at Carlisle there are two vendors you might want to check out. Jake at Corvette Concepts does many performance mods at the event, but I don't know if he offers tuning onsite. Breathless Performance will also be there. They do many installs of their products and also offer computer tuning at the event. They also have a mobile chassis dyno that I've seen them bring to some events. I don't know if they will have it there. There is always another vendor who brings a mobile dyno to Carlisle every year. It is usually located near the hill. When at Carlisle you should be able to figure out where I mean. The best advice posted is something I also agree with, though. I would take the time at the event to check out all the vendors you posssibly can. Then make your decisions after you've seen it all. That way you will only make your mods once. If you've never been to Carlisle before, it is huge. Plan on taking the whole event schedule to see it all and wear comfortable footwear. It's also usually HOT with a thunderstorm thrown in at least once.
I personally wouldn't get any tuning done at Carlisle. You need to run the car and modify and check modifications on the road. This isn't done there. I know someone who had a car tuned there last year, turned out the car felt better but he later found that they leaned the crap out of it and it would have led to eventual mechanical problems had he not found it. I would talk to vendors and do some research, then get the car tuned properly after Carlisle after you make a decisiton on who you want to tune it.

That, apparently was not a very conscientious tuner
Thanks again for your input guys. I think I'll do the shop around thing at the event. I am really looking forward to getting a tune done, but I think it is really good advice to get it done the right way the first time. Buying the car has been great, love the car, forum, and the fun events to come.

I wouldnt go to a venders show, and have them install my parts there that day. I would go to a venders show, and see what everyone has to offer. Understand what parts do what. Talk to people. See how exhausts sound. Dont get it tuned if you think down the road you will do all the bolt on and add a cam or a heads and cam package. Having your stock tune re-tuned will make the car run better, but you'll have to pay for a tune again after you add parts that will give you power.
Many shops will give you free upgrade tunes if they install additional parts. ECS is a very good shop
