I've read the post on the CL problem..Not sure the thread really answered this question...I have a 99 a4...if GM provides a fix under recall..which from what I've read includes a harness...why would you pay out of pocket to purchase a CLB?
Their harnesses are not reliable and GM tech should tell you that. In my A4 they removed the lock plate and left the wiring alone........I have a clb that I'll install. An experienced tech with knowledge of this mess will tell you this is the best way to go. A lot of it depends on how experienced with vettes the particular dealer is.............
CLB did NOT fix my '98 A4. In fact it made the problem much worse and I had to remove it. I still get the "pull key" message periodically. Bill Curlee has speculated that the problem has to do with the ignition switch... good luck!

Many have found that the problem lies in the faulty actuator motors, pre-1/04's.. I feel my problems are associated with that and I've been fighting GM to replace mine. The fight continues.....................
I'm very concerned as well. I have a 98 manual and bought a clb which my car would not accept. I am worried and am going in to do the recal on tuesday. I hope they dont screw up my car. The tech told me that this is the 3d round of recals that they have had does anyone know the deal with that
Hey thanks but if you read above I tried the clb and it didn't work with my car
Unless you have some sort of strange BCM related failure, there should be no reason why the CLB wouldn't work (assuming the CLB itself wasn't bad, but that's very rare)
the relays in the harness aren't worth a crap.......after my second harness they just removed it!
So what did the dealership offer you by way of a solution? Your column won't lock, but can't the fuel still be shut off? (BTW, I was under the impression that as our car came from the factory, there was no fuel shutoff as part of the CL mechanism, but now I have heard that there always was a fuel shutoff, but just that it didn't always "work" under all circumstances if the column locked, so GM's first recall dealt with making sure the fuel did shut off under all conditions?) I realize that the CLB should eliminate that concern, but did the dealer (and GM) just leave you swinging in the breeze?

No, it is common knowledge that the clbs do not work for all cars. It even states on the websites when you go to purchase them there's no refund if it doesn't work on your car etc.
