Last friday I had my front pads changed and rotors turned. After I leave the shop I noticed that there was still a little vibration coming from the brakes. So I take it back and they tell me that they will prolly have to turn the back rotors. I took it back today and they turned the back rotors and put new rear pads on too. It took away all the vibration and jerking that was there, but now when I hit the brakes it sounds like one of those screaming firecrackers before it blows up? Somethings not right for sure.
Does anybody have any idea what this might be? I would like to have a idea on whats causing this problem before I take it back to shop because it's about 50 minutes from my house. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks for reading!
I think they used car quest ceramic brake pads. The fronts are fine but the rear are making this high pitch noise. I'm not sure what you mean by beded the brakes.
Word of advice (if not now, then later): Get rid of the rotors and get slotted versions. Turning the rotors get rid of the pulsations for a year or so, but inevitably, it will return. In this case, I'd say your pads are causing the screetching and they need to be replaced with OEM, Hawk or other good pads. But first, call the shop and tell them what you are hearing. The next time they do something to your car, don't pay until you and the manager take a ride.
It will remove old pad material which sometimes can cause vibration, but it reduces the mass of the rotor which is not a good thing.
Bedding is a process of getting brakes really stinking hot... gradually with about 10 or more successive stops and then letting them cool off. It transfers a thin film of pad material to the rotor and bakes off some of the binder at the pad surface. It also makes the pad surface conform to the rotor.
I drive hard race pads on the street all summer. When they start squealing, I do a few really hard stops and it quiets them down for a while.
