Default Optima batteries

Has anyone used this brand of battery? If so, what are the results?

...use the search and have some while you read the bazillion prior discussions.
Yes, I've been using OPTIMA batteries (red top only) in all of my cars for years. The longest one lasted seven years while I owned that particular car and it's still being used by the new owner.
Buy a 1.25 amp BATTERY TENDER PLUS float maintenance charger to maintain the battery in top condition during periods of non use.
I had access to the product before they were offered to the public.
Stand by for opposing viewpoints...

Any motorcycle shop should have them...cost is about $59.95 for the 1.25 amp version (the .75 amp version will work, just at a slower rate). I like them over other float maintenance chargers for the warranty.
INTERSTATE BATTERY also carries the BATTERY TENDER PLUS, price should be about the same.
Do an internet search under "BATTERY TENDER PLUS, DELTRAN CORPORATION" for plenty of information to read in their FAQ section.

I use the yellow top since I will be pushing a lot with the stereo. No complaints so far.

During the past two years, I have read of many. many Optima premature failures. IMO, their quality has plummeted and I cannot recommend them.

See: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1026859

The Exide orbital is also an AGM battery, but has a much more durable-looking case. The Exide Marathon has a similarly-designed case with extra material around the posts to prevent cracking in the most vulnerable areas. The Marathon is not an AGM, but is built to keep its battery acid inside instead of on sensitive components under the battery tray.
Speaking of lead-acid batteries, the AC Delco Professional has a 50 month free replacement guarantee - the highest in the industry. Here are more batteries and their rankings:

Best for cold weather performance:
1. Everstart $60
2. AC Delco $90
3. NAPA $70
4. AC Delco (75 series) $90
5. Everstart, (75 series) $60 CR Best buy
"Batteries from EverStart, Kirkland, and NAPA are good values."

Best for warm weather performance:
1. NAPA $80 (series 65)
2. Duralast (65 series) $60 CR Best buy
3. AC Delco (65 series): $90
4. NAPA (75 series) $70
5. Nascar (75 series) $40 CR Best Buy

75 Series (the type used in Corvette C5s) batteries:
1. Nascar Select 75-84N (North) $80 Excellent reserve capacity
2. AC Delco Proffesional 75-7YR $90 Excellent CCA performance
3. EverStart MAX-75N (North) $60 Excellent reserve capacity, CR Best Buy
4. NAPA XLT N75-S (South) $70 CR Best Buy
5. Autocraft Silver 75-2 $55 Excellent reserve capacity

Notes: The best Diehard battery (WeatherHandler 30075 North) came in 9th place among the 75 series batteries. Its life test was below average, although its reserve capacity was excellent.
The best Interstate battery (Mega-Tron Plus MTP-75) came in 15th place. Its life test was below average.

I swear by my Optima Yellow Top. The Vette is the first car I ever had that can pull down the battery with the stereo. It's also the first car I ever had that was loaded with so much electronics. The great thing about a deep cycle battery is that it's designed to be drawn down to very low levels and then recharged over and over and over.

Another great thing is that because the core is wrapped it can't tree. I don't have to worry about keeping fluid levels topped off and it doesn't leak. Guess where your car's PCM resides.

I'll never buy a standard battery again.

I just replaced my delco, which I assume original, in my 01 with a optima red top. Did a couple of searches to see if there was a lot of negative, and found some negatives but a lot of postives. I got it at the local autozone.

BTW my delco gave no warning whatsoever, it just died dead. Lucky it did take a jump start or it would have been a tow truck.

good luck.

My first Optima is now 7 years old and still working perfectly. When my truck's battery died recently, without any warning, I bought another Optima.

Harbor Freight has an "el cheapo" for about $15 - $8 on sale. I've been using one for a year without any problems. $.02 deposited.
