I'm talking with a STOCK cam ... not a high lift aftermarket cam. How many aftermarket springs that are intended for stock LS1 or LS6 engines have failed?

Hmmm... that's a rare scenario... most running a stock cam keep the stock springs.

Not really ... many of the guys who have had stock spring failures usually put aftermarket springs in with the stock cam … maybe adding different push rods too. I'm wondering if any of those guys have subsequently had those aftermarket springs fail?

All I'm saying is that the yellows aren't as bad as people make them out to be... in fact, they're great. Failures are accross all years, even '01s and even LS1's.

I hear ya, but it just seems like there are more failures than one would expect. Who knows what the root cause is ... could be a number of things: bad batches of springs, owners abusing the car, missed shifts into a lower gear causing over-reving, over reving with a cold engine, owners putting in bigger cams, etc.

But if it's really bad metallurgy/quality then it might be wise to change to an aftermarket spring that has a better quality and reliability reputation. That's what I think most people are trying to determine.

For your purposes, I think I would stick to the yellow LS2 springs.
Are the LS2 springs currently going into new C6's the exact same spring as is in my 2002 LS6? Same as in the 2004 LS6? Just different batches?

I'm pretty sure that the LS2 is using the yellows as well but I'm not 100%. The LS2 is the same 243 casting head but w/ the '01 spec cam.

I have heard the same, and with a ramp up in production one would assume that the failure issue has hopefully been resolved and possibly the reasons were addressed through metalurgy or possibly a new vendor. Assuming that the LS2 is also running the same springs, you could check the C6 section for problems as well as the GTO forums. I haven't seen many lately though.

Any one else heard of an '04 LS6 with bad valve springs? Seems nobody can confirm of a failure on the 2004's so maybe it is just a bad batch in 2002.

Quick Reply: LS6 valve spring failure: any '04's or '01's?
