Default heavy modded LS1 vs LS2?

like anyody here with an HP/TQ obsession, i've spent more than a few hours just thinking about various performance parts combinations to get the most amount of power out of an LS1. More recently i've actually been adding up the numbers and i've come to the conclusion that when you start getting into the head/cam/rotating assembly, it almost becomes more financially desirable to get an LS2.

I'm wondering how many C5 owners have made the LS1 to LS2 swap. for you LS1 drivers, would you have made the swap or are you happy with your LS1?

An Ls2 is an Ls1 spelled sideways? Why would you want to upgrade to that. At least let's put you 30-50 hp over an LS6.

Since you have a '97 you don't have an LS2/6 intake, so you need to get a used intake, & heads (with upgraded springs), drop in a mild cam and your whooping all over LS6's. Total cost for parts maybe $1,400?

Intake - $300
Heads . $500
Head upgrades pushrods, etc - $300
Cam - $300

What was the question again?

You didnt factor in labor costs there
a head/cam swap would cost (me at least) the same amount as an engine swap, labor wise

and, since you're in there anyway, you can add H/C for cheap(er) since its a breeze with the engine out already

Good head and cam package, LTs, 90 mm tb, PP LS6 Intake & most important the dyno tune Can get any LS1/6 motor up into good numbers.

One of the challanges is where is you LS1/6 starting from?? If you have 40-50,000 miles, then in the long run starting with a new short block and build my be a better idea.

Scoggin Dicky ( forum Vender) has some great prices on LS2 short blocks.

Still look for at least 10,000 for upgrades.

If I had an LS1 I would want to upgrade to an LS6 way before an LS2. The hp/torq #'s are simular 5hp more for the LS6 But every stock for stock race I've seen the Z06 walked the C6 every single time. The C6 would In the beginning Inch away from the Z but after 50 or so the Z walks the C6.
I've seen this at least 20 different times between videos and real life.
I also know the LS6 Intake Manifold flows better than the LS2.
*Here's another fine example...The Caddy CTS-V Is 140 Lbs heavier than the GTO LS2 & In the mag. It was over 2/10ths faster In the Qrt.ML...I was shocked, but It was that day. Go LS6!!

If you want some one else to do the labor... here's your pricing. Probably seen this... but, here's a guy for you to talk to:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1557833

I wish he was in my area, his prices are very good!

Depending on the cam you select, you can go from smog-able mild, to wild. There's no way you can purchase a quality engine and install it for under six grand. Anyway why spend ten grand for nothing more than the same engine especially when there's nothing wrong with what ya got????
