Default MSD Coils, Comments?

I have used MSD on non LS application and had good results. All I here about the LS product for C5s is negative. Too Expensive, no real gains, has anyone had any positive experience on a C5 application?

There really isn't much room for improvement over the stock setup like there was on some of the older cars. I have also read that a good upgrade is the truck coils, which is a lot cheaper. But again, likely not worth the money unless you have to replace coils for other reasons.

i had one coil go bad so i got a set of the msd's and they work perfect. can't tell if they are better though. like someone said, " they look great."

p.s. i don't want anyone stealing my fuel rail cover idea either.

this is soooo true with many aspects of the LS1. Years ago we would just flip-over the air cleaner lid and get 10hp on a factory small block.

And headers were good for 35 hp - still piped into the factory exhaust sysyem.

Those days are over.

with the factory LS1, there isn't an easy bottleneck to make an improvement on. The factory exhaust manifolds flow pretty-darned well; the factory ignition system is more that up to the task, the MAF flows well enough (even with the screen)... and so on.

IMO you need to gain 60 to 70hp -over stock- before any of the factory supplied systems to cause serious-enough restriction.

.

Thanks for the post. I've been arguing this very case to a friend, who claims his msd coils gave him a great hp jump. He's never had his car on a dyno, but claims that his stock 04Z06, feels a lot quicker/stronger than my 02Z06 with headers/hiflow cats/vararam/dyno tune.

His coils DO make his car quicker!!! His is is lighter than most other ZO6's beacuse his walet is lighter by the TON of money the coils cost!!

best reason I've ever heard for being faster with the msd coils.

Two failures in a year (on two different cylinders). Don't waste your time.
